Every week I do a Sketch study in which I take a unique kind of reference picture and I try to draw it realistically in my own art style . This week I found a cool reference where a girl had elf ears and horns and she was holding a teddy . I always have been fond of mystical creatures so seeing this made me like I really should draw it .
First of all I started drawing basic shapes and turning them into complex ones by seeing the reference I took a 2h pencil and lightly sketched the shapes out like her hair the horns and elf ears and the face I really just made small details . This sketch I wanna draw but in a more better way .
Next i erased all the extra lines so our first frame has that lightly sketched sketch second step is to add value and we do that by adding some shadows and highlights so for the shading I chose my 3b pencil and started shading her neck, under the hair area and inside of ears . Also the face is in 3/4 view so I shaded nose more from one side . I blended it all with a blending stump.
Next i started shading her hair and the teddy with a 4 b pencil and hatching technique I made strands in her hair section by section . This way when you blend it still looks like Hair texture . Now I blended it all up shaded her eyebrows and her nose added heart highlights to her face and started shading the face and then I added highlights to her hair too after blending . Now I shaded her teddy and her shirt too. I also shaded her horns with a contour method like the most top part is smaller and the bottom section of the horn are bigger and the rings over the horns even would be over the top part . After spending a generous time in blending and shading.
Here is the final result . I love how just simple monochrome sketches even can be so full of values . Each week I get so much to learn .Practice is all you need as an artist.
