A TURNAROUND.

I sat under the mango tree in school that day, thinking about what had happened at home that morning when my classmate passed by.

    "Hey, Felicia," she said.

I had pretended not to hear her as I wasn't in the mood to talk to anyone. I just wanted to sink in my thoughts.

She walked closer to me and touched me softly. I let out a tear.

"Felicia, why are you here all by yourself? Don't you want to go home?" She had asked.

I didn't know when I burst into tears as I hugged her. It was really something I needed at that point – a hug.

I poured out my heart to her, telling her how my aunt restricted me from having friends and how it was affecting my mental health. I was the kind who loved making friends and I felt I was being limited.

"Let's go home." She insisted and I couldn't resist.

You know when you haven't heard of what someone else is facing, you feel yours is the worst. Then, when you finally hear from them, you'd realize that you shouldn't even feel bad about yourself. That's just how life is.

As we were going home that day, Janet explained her predicaments to me.

Her mother had been sick and her father just lost his job after he was scammed of a huge amount of money.

I thought she would be sad about it and feel depressed but colour me shocked when I saw her smiling as she was explaining to me.

"See, Felicia, I have no limits," she said.

That day as I went home, I reminisced on all that happened. It was truly something to wonder about.

From then, I would watch her closely and every time I saw her, I never saw her look discourage. She would rather encourage others.

She was given the post of the Senior Prefect in school and this even made her come out more bolder.

As I watched her, I learned a great lesson from her.

I got to understand that life is not all about making friends but making impacts. And from that day, I made up my mind to focus on becoming a person of positive impact.
