On 22 April the Earthday event is celebrated annually. This event is celebrated for environmental protection. I was held for the first time on 22 April 1990. Now on this occasion, a range of events is celebrated annually. It is celebrated by approximately 1 billion from 193 countries.
Every year at this event, there is an official theme for 2024 this official theme is "Planet vs Plastic". 2024 is the 55th anniversary of the EarthDay event, i.e. it has been celebrated for 55 years.
The accident that gives birth to this event is the 1969 Santa Barba Oil spill. In this oil spill about 11 million liters of oil were spilled and destroyed more than 10,000 aquatic life. As a result of this event, the environmentalists mobilized to form environmental education, environmental regulation, and Earthday.
I describe that the theme of the 2024 Earthday event is "Planet vs Plastic". So in this event, we will make a commitment that we will end the use of plastic for the sake of human beings and planetary health. In this commitment, plastic use will be reduced by up to 60 percent by 2024. Plastic pollution is one of most important environmental issue and it is a matter of great concern. It can exist in terrestrial, aquatic, and atmospheric environments.
As we know plastic is nonbiodegradable and can exist for one thousand years as well as if it degrades it converts into microplastic which is also very harmful because it enters into the food chain and can cause several health effects.
So for this reason on the occasion of Earthdays, environmentalists make the commitment to the reduction of plastic use. So we need to join hands and say no to plastic use and discourage unknown people from using plastic.
