I had started to envision a project during the pandemic times when each one of us was locked up in the four walls of a manmade structure in some part of the world. I can easily assume that each one of us had got the fate of locking up ourselves up for at least a day in fear of the a immense biological risk caused by the small covid parasite !!
I along with my 2 friends were spending our pandemic days in the city of Pune, India. We were having a great time: no pollution, no noisy horns, no rush and lots of time to create art, music and life. We used to wake up early in the morning and go for morning rides on our Royal Enfield without masks, through the once busy streets which lead men and women to work. They all lay empty. Humans were covered with masks, But yet, they had to remove the sacred protection once in a while to have FOOD !!
As the disaster dawned in on nations and humanity, we started to observe in this scenario of unexpected risk, the greatest asset that a human being was holding on to was his/her inventory of food supplies and a few litres of water.Convenience was bashed out of the window. Availability and access was God !!
Like any other new breaker, the pandemic dusked into a norm in a few months but we wanted to solve this problem of food security.(nutritional security for a more technical audience) and hence we birthed the idea of Together We Farm
++What does food security mean for us ??++
- A home which can understand the nutritional needs of its members and can produce the forecasted requirement from their home or from their community.
- A chemical free food systems
- Less food miles on each plate you consume
- Raising awareness about farming as a lifestyle activity and decoupling it from large scales
- Create an artistic garden which can help you spend time with your family and friends.
With this mission in our hearts, we set out to test two markets.
- A urban small landholding system
- A semi urban medium sized land holding system for market gardening.
Why these markets ?
- The urban small landholding system was an important product since the urban spaces have been drastically been increasing . 70% of the world is expected to live in urban spaces and the rate of urbanisation is going to rapidly increase in the coming future
- The increasing climate risks and the need for shortened supply chains for risk mitigation in case of a unprecedented event like Covid-19 has made it imperative that the urban planners account for the importance in reducing the food miles.
- Creating a home garden will help you to provide your family with nutritional food which are chemical free.
- The urban and urban sprawl systems need a significant green cover to reduce urban heat island formation which can significantly cool down the temperature levels.
We have successfully test both the models and have successfully held a community day for the people surrounding the farm. This was a joyous moment as we were all overwhelmed with the success we achieved with our mission. We were all artists and creators when we started testing our small idea. Through this journey we learned a lot of aspects of business and now we are looking for the right mentors and guides who can help us to replicate this goodness across the people who really wish to live with nature. And some may find never have to take that busy crowded roads that lead you to work. Just a May be !!
Our mission is to give you self sufficiency which can lead a system to a community self sufficiency model. And what we mean by self sufficiency is your families ability to have a source of food which is independent of market movements.
We are slowly building one brick at a time. Some said, it's a long process. But alchemy happens not in a day or a year. It can happen only when the mix is right. And it can be this very moment, when the right one joins the mission !!
