In case you're missing out, Squid Game Season 2 is finally out on Netflix starting December 26, 2024. I've been waiting for this for so long because I loved the season 1 of the show. Back then, I was about to take the board exam and this movie was my inspiration to make it through. It taught me that life is a survival of the fittest so i should just be strong and keep going.
Now that I'm an adult, I'm perceiving this show in a different light. It certainly has something to do about poverty and how people can sometimes think irrationally when facing adversity.
I'm not gonna spoil anything from the show since i haven't finished the 9 episodes but i would like to share this one scene from episode 1.
There was a part where Mr. Recruiter, played by Gong Yoo, ordered a hundred pieces of bread and a hundred pieces of lottery ticket. He then went to beggars and allowed them to choose one between bread or lottery. With the one chance they have, most of them chose the lottery ticket hoping to win the jackpot. Unfortunately, none of them won leaving them hungrier than they were.
This story made me question myself, if I were in the shoes of the beggar, what would i choose?
For a starter, I'm aware that the chance of winning a lottery is approximately 1 in a million tickets. So I'd definitely choose the bread. But if it were bread vs the riskiest stock or crypto, then i might choose the latter since i already have the knowledge on how stocks or crypto works.
But then again, people think irrationally when facing adversity because we want a solution to our problem. Fast! And most of these problems stem from lack of money.
I'm currently in episode 3 and will probably finish the show over the weekend. This suspense thriller is a must watch!
