Light in the darkness

    My cousin's wry humour

I want to tell you about my cousin, Sam. He's not your typical hero.

He doesn't wear a cape or save the day in grandiose ways but he has a superpower of his own, a wry sense of humor that can turn even the darkest of situations into moments of light.

It all started last summer when our family went on a camping trip.

We were deep in the woods, surrounded by towering trees and the sounds of nature. It was supposed to be a fun getaway but things took a turn when a sudden storm hit and rain began to pour down relentlessly, turning the campsite into a muddy mess.

I remember huddling under our flimsy tent, trying to stay dry as the thunder roared overhead.

Everyone was feeling anxious, wondering how we would weather the storm but not Sam.

He sat there with a grin on his face, cracking jokes like it was just another day at the beach.

"Looks like we ordered the deluxe package with the complimentary shower," he quipped, earning a round of laughter from the rest of us.

As the hours passed and the rain showed no signs of letting up, tensions started to rise in the tent.

    However, Sam remained unfazed.

He kept us entertained with his endless supply of one-liners and puns.
It was as if he had a magical ability to lighten the mood, even in the darkest of times.

Another real problem came when our tent started leaking.

Water dripped from the ceiling, soaking everything in sight.

Most of us panicked as we scrambled to salvage our belongings.

Not Sam. He simply looked up at the leak and deadpanned, "Well, I guess this tent comes with a built-in water feature."

I couldn't help but laugh, despite the situation.

In that moment, I realized the power of Sam's humor. It wasn't just about making jokes, it was about finding joy in the midst of chaos.

His ability to see the absurdity in our predicament helped us all cope with the uncertainty of the storm.

Eventually, the rain subsided and the sun peeked out from behind the clouds.

We emerged from our soggy tent feeling tired but grateful to have made it through the night.

And as we packed up our campsite, I couldn't help but feel grateful for Sam and his unique perspective on life.

I was however grateful that it wasn't the storm that defined our camping trip, it was the laughter we shared in the face of adversity.

For that, I'll always be thankful for my cousin Sam and his wry sense of humor that shines brightest when the skies are darkest.
