Last night, we had a special Japanese evening at the local market hall. The event featured Japanese cuisine from the evening onwards, and later, a Japanese movie was screened outdoor. It was a wonderful cultural event.
I participated as one of the food vendors. Despite the unfortunate strong rain and it being the organizer's first attempt at such an event, there was a bit worry about the turnout. However, many local fans of Japanese culture and also Japanese people showed up.
Hoping to catch the interest of visitors, I displayed our onigiri maker with its new packaging, which I finally finished last month.
Making a package might sound trivial, but it was actually a quite big step for me. The onigiri maker was completed seven years ago and had been sold without packaging since then. I always thought it needed proper packaging, but I procrastinated on prototyping and designing it. It wasn't until the market master of the market hall suggested me to display it in the market hall store. Then I finally got moving.
As expected, the onigiri makers with the new packaging was well received in the Japan evening. A person even said, "I saw the post about the new packaging on Instagram and came to buy one as a gift for a friend." I was so happy that I sent a message to my partner, who helps me to order it to a local wood craft studio.
Having this small wooden product in my hand, the first product I made after moving to Leipzig, makes me feel—perhaps a bit dramatically—that life is interesting and good.
Tomorrow, I will participate in an evening event at the same market hall "Friday's Apero." It is a once a month event where people enjoy drinks and food. Since I was quite suddenly asked to serve food, I decided to make onigiri that can be made and served from my stand. It will be a good advertisement for the Onigiri Maker too.

昨日は地域のマーケットホールで日本の夕べが開催されました。夕方から日本食を提供し始め、暗くなってから野外で日本に関する映画を上映すると言う文化イベントです。
私は食事を提供する側で参加していました。あいにくの雨で、かつ主催者にとってはじめての試みだったため、どのくらいお客さんが来てくれるか若干不安がありましたが、たくさんの日本好きの地元の人たち、ライプツィヒに住む日本の人たちも来てくれました。
日本好きの人たちが関心を持ってくれるかなと期待して、スタンドには先月パッケージが完成したおにぎりメーカーも並べました。
たかがパッケージ、されどパッケージ、実は7年前におにぎりメーカー自体は完成していて、ずっと裸で売っていて、パッケージがあれば・・・と思いつつ、プロトタイピングとデザインを怠けていたのでした。マーケットホールのお店に並べてみない？と声をかけてもらい、重い腰がようやく上がったのでした。
期待通り、新しいパッケージのおにぎりメーカーが売れました。中には「インスタで新しいパッケージができたって投稿見て、友人へのプレゼントに買いに来たよ」という人まで。うれしさのあまり、木工所への発注などを手伝ってくれている相方にメッセージをしたのでした。
今住んでいる街に移って初めて作った、この木の小さなプロダクトを触っていると、大袈裟かもしれませんが、人生っておもしろいな、人生っていいなと思うのでした。
明日はお世話になっているマーケットホールで、月に一回金曜日の夜開催されている、お酒を片手に楽しい時間を過ごそうというイベントに急遽参加することになりました。おにぎりだと作りながら出せるので、おにぎりメーカーの宣伝を兼ねておにぎりを作ろうと思います。
