The Power of Togetherness: Facing Challenges Through the Division of Labour

Been a Nigerian I am growing up, I was taught that resilience and ability for us to be united in terms of difficulty. Whether we are having a community event or probably a family gathering, we always find a way of working together even though situations might not favour us coming together. As a Nigerian, I discovered that togetherness is a root in our culture and most especially when we now combine it with division of labour, it now becomes a very powerful tool for us to actually overcome any challenges that might want to come our way.

Today I will be talking about the benefits that lies in the division of labour and also togetherness. But before then, let me briefly define what division of labour truly means. Division of labour means you breaking down task into smaller taks and giving different people to carry out those smaller tasks based on the strength of each of those individuals. In Nigeria, I see division of labour being applied in our daily lives and I'm in different situations.

Rake a look at during the festive periods majorly like the Christmas, Salah. During those festive periods and in every home, every individual in different household are been given one role or the other to carry out. Some might be doing the cooking while for others, they may be the one doing the cleaning up. By the division of those tasks during the festive period, it helps to make sure that everything goes out smoothly at the end of the day.
Now the big question is Why do division of labour always works. Wells growing up as a Nigerian, we are actually known for the diverse backgrounds and culture we have.

By engaging in the division of these labours, it helps us to be united irrespective of our differences in Diversity. Not only that, the aspect of division of labour is also carried out even in communities. Communities that are known for farming most especially, during the period of farming, you will see some planting, some will be harvesting and some will be the one in charge of selling those farm produce harvested in the market. Not only do the division of labour help us as Nigerians to achieve efficiency, but it also helps us to be more united and bonded because at the end of the day, each individual will have this feeling of being valued.

Talking about the importance of togetherness, I grew up understanding this popular adage that says "If you want to go fast, go alone; if you want to go far, go together". This adage has live in my heart for many years as it helps to actually show the value of working as a team. As human being, when you are confronted with tough situations alone, it might be difficult for you to handle it but when you have people around you, you can be able to have strength to scale through the tough challenges.

One of the beautiful cultures I have noticed in Nigeria in my few years of experience is that whenever there is this national crisis or probably there is even a personal tragedy Nigerians always comes out in mass. Examples like the EndSars Protest and also the Mohbad Mourning that happens across the whole nation. All these instances show the togetherness that is rooted in the culture of Nigerians and also when we join hands together to do something, we become unstoppable in our mass number. Not only that, when as Nigerians they join together on your case on social media positively, the person involved is blessed. There are several testimony of people whose lives have been transformed on social media due to the fact that Nigerians show togetherness to publicize the particular individual.

Finding the balance between both as I conclude is very important. But I will say division of labour and togetherness works together. In as much as we share task to different individuals, they still need to be in the spirits of oneness and togetherness so as to work towards a common goal. I have been able to notice this display of balance majorly in extended families in Nigeria. Take for instance when there is financial needs and there is a need for fund raising. Even if individuals contribute money to meet those financial needs, in some instances, some will contribute more while some will contribute less but majorly what is important is doing it together at the end of the day.
