Hello friends of the Cent Community,

My trip to work by bicycle has been a fabulous adventure for me and I am delighted to share some personal insights and suggestions based on my own experiences.

It is true that the presence of planning in my bike commuting has been everything. It used to bother me how I would sweat at work but fortunately, there is a shower room in our company.

Before then, I had an arrangement whereby I could use any shower found at a nearby office or gym.

Ensuring I have soap, deodorant, towel, and other toiletries to refresh myself after the ride has increasingly become important towards feeling okay at my workplace.

It was difficult for me to figure out how I would carry my work clothes without sweating on them from behind.

At first, wearing them in a knapsack was one way of doing it but it didn’t go well. However, carrying them on a rack did not sound good as this would result into wrinkling of my clothes.

I eventually found a solution I could work with dropping clothes off at work the day before. This means in addition to taking off some of the extra weight from my legs, my clothes are ready for me when I arrive.

One key thing I learnt through this journey is that you do not need an expensive bike for commuting.

I began with an old mountain bicycle that was already mine and it has served me well. The main thing is to get on any bike available and buy a better one later if necessary.

It is important to be ready for unexpected situations such as bursting tires while biking. A spare tube, a pump, and the necessary tools for changing a tire are always in my backpack.

At first, learning how to change a tire felt daunting but now it’s something that makes me feel less vulnerable because even if/when/once i have a flat tire i know what to do about it especially after mastering this skill.

My bike riding to work is always safe. I ensure that I look through some cycling safety tips for me to be on the safe side; this includes wearing a helmet every time.

It was difficult at first, but I found myself enjoying bicycle commuting.

The only way to explain it is through the sense of freedom and self-reliance when I cycle my way to work. Start your day with an early morning exercise and fresh air which helps me clear my thoughts before heading over to job.

In general, bike commuting has been extremely positive and very fulfilling. Apart from being a healthy and eco-friendly means of transport, it also makes my working days full of fun and satisfaction as well.

If you are thinking about bike commuting, then try it out, you might end up discovering that you love cycling too like myself.

    Thanks for the time.
