Good afternoon WorldMappin friends, I have been wanting to show you this site for a long time, but I was hoping to go there again and now it is not in my near plans. Anyway, it is close by, so before I know it, I will go for a walk and enjoy the tour. But the truth of the story, besides the place, is what it envelops and encloses. It is not what I come to show you today, I am not really a person deeply rooted in the political issues of my country, and in Argentina, these things abound. But let's face it, is there a place in the world that has not had a difficult past? A painful history? I think we all grow socially from there, that's why this radio space in such an iconic place is unbeatable for me.

Buen día amigos de WorldMappin, hace mucho tiempo quiero mostrarles este sitio, pero esperaba poder volver a ir y ahora no está en mis planes cercanos. De todos modos, queda cerca, por lo que antes de que me de cuenta, iré a pasear y disfrutar su recorrido. Pero la verdad de la historia, además del lugar, es lo que envuelve y encierra. No es lo que vengo a mostrarles hoy, verdaderamente no soy una persona muy arraigada a los temas políticos de mi país, y encima en Argentina, estas cosas abundan. Pero seamos realistas, ¿hay un lugar en el mundo que no haya tenido un pasado difícil? ¿Una historia dolorosa? Creo que todos crecemos socialmente desde allí, por eso es que este espacio radial en un lugar tan icónico, me resulta insuperable.
The question is this, that it is a place that promotes expression, located on the premises of the former ESMA, makes it iconic. In a place where in the past (not very distant) people were tortured during the last military dictatorship of the country, where voices were silenced, where the lives of some were ended... a time when musicians, writers, artists, etc, were silenced or banned by the dictatorship, today, invites us to raise our voices.

La cuestión es esta, que sea un lugar que promueve la expresión, ubicado en el predio de la ex ESMA, lo vuelve icónico. En un sitio donde en el pasado (no muy lejano) torturaron personas durante la última dictadura militar del país, donde se acallaban voces, donde se terminaba con la vida de algunos… época donde músicos, escritores, artistas etc, se vieron silenciados, o prohibidos por la dictadura, hoy, nos invita a elevar la voz.
This radio is known as “la radio de las abuelas de plaza de Mayo” (the radio of the grandmothers of Plaza de Mayo). All the magic happens in the same premises of the university that offers its journalism courses there (and I don't know if there are any more). The program was at night, so we couldn't walk around much, that's why I want to go and photograph the surroundings, but I never imagined that there would be such a spectacular radio inside.

Esta radio es conocida como “la radio de las abuelas de plaza de Mayo” ocurre toda la magia en el mismo predio de la universidad que allí brinda sus cursos de periodismo (y no sé si alguno más) En esta época tuve la dicha que una amiga formase parte de un programa y la acompañé muchas veces. El programa era por la noche, así que no podíamos pasear mucho por el predio, por eso es que quiero ir y fotografiar los alrededores, pero jamás me imaginé que habría una radio tan espectacular dentro.
The soundman is a very funny guy, and between jokes and serious moments, the show progressed. The truth is that I don't remember exactly what the programs were about, a little bit of current affairs at that time, a little bit of music, some jokes... But I can recognize by the girls' faces when it was the beginning, the middle moment and the dramatic moment. I repeat, things were never easy in Argentina, what better than to be communicators... besides, to state the obvious, in a world that until recently, did not offer this possibility to women.

El sonidista es un tipo muy divertido, y entre chistes y momentos serios, la cuestión avanzaba. La verdad es que no recuerdo con exactitud de qué iban los programas, un poco de actualidad en ese momento, un poco de música, algunos chistes… Pero sí puedo reconocer por la cara de las chicas cuando fue el comienzo, el momento medio y el momento dramático. Repito, las cosas nunca estuvieron fáciles en Argentina, qué mejor que ser comunicadoras… además, por decir lo obvio, en un mundo que hasta hace poco, no le brindaba esta posibilidad a las mujeres.
But going back, being such a human theme, the decorations, the photos of the disappeared, the posters, shine with their presence. Everything is an anchor to the memory, to think, not to forget. There is so much that deserves to be told. History lives on in people's memories and actions. Pero volviendo, siendo un tema tan humano el que aqui atraviesa, las decoraciones, las fotos de desaparecidos, los carteles, brillan con su presencia. Todo es un anclaje a la memoria, a pensar, a no olvidar. Hay tanto que merece la pena ser contado. La historia sigue viva en los recuerdos y en las acciones de las personas. Las acciones que llevamos a cabo, el espacio que se puede habitar aqui, donde antes fuese un calvario, es un honor, un orgullo.
May times keep changing and always find us a better wind that leads us to enjoy. In my case, going to the Esma is always a moment for deep reflections. Since I was very young this happens to me, I immediately connect with the time, it will be because of the things my parents told me, and how I studied it at school. But it will also be the level of empathy, how much I enjoyed doing radio when I was young and discovering in others the same power of camouflage behind the voice, a microphone and complicit looks and companions.

Que los tiempos sigan cambiando y siempre nos encuentre un viento mejor que nos lleve a disfrutar. En mi caso, ir a la Esma siempre es un momento para reflexiones profundas. Desde muy chica me pasa esto, conecto inmediatamente con la época, será por las cosas que me contaban mis padres, y cómo lo estudié en la escuela. Pero también será el nivel de empatía, lo mucho que disfrutaba hacer radio cuando era jóven y descubrir en otros el mismo poder de camuflarse detrás de la voz, de un micrófono y de miradas cómplices y compañeras.

Por cierto, este programa ya no está al aire, y no sé tampoco si la radio sigue funcionando. Pero espero que en la visita por Argentina, no les falte el recorrido por los lugares donde ocurrieron cosas terribles, pero son parte de la memoria de todos los argentinos hoy.
