If there is something I detect in life, it is a lie, but most times we have to lie to save ourselves from some situations or our loved ones'. I see someone who lies as someone who is not truthful, and I can’t trust such a person. Even the holy book is against lying, which is a sin. As a human there will come a time you will lie properly to save yourself or family.
Back then, when we were growing up, our priest would also tell us that Satan is the father of all lies. I grew up with the mindset that lying is a sin. I try my possible best to stay away from anything that will make me lie.
My friends know how much I hate lying. My friends can’t tell me to cover up lies for them because they know that I will not do it. Most times, they tag my saint, Mary. I dislike lying with passion. I have been a victim of this, but I did it for a good reason. It was during my days at the university.
In my third year at the university, I came back and met my dad, who was very sick. During this period, my dad was having problems in his business. It was even hard for the family to eat. Coming home from school, I met my dad, who was very sick. He needed to go to the hospital for proper treatment, but there was no money.
Well, there was only one person who could help with my dad's hospital bills: my dad’s younger brother. Seriously, these two have been having serious problems since I was little. My dad doesn’t want anything that will connect him with his younger brother. At this point, I don’t even care what the issue is; I need to save my dad.
The next morning, I dressed up and travelled to my uncle's house. He was very surprised to see me in his house. This was my first time visiting my uncle. I told him that my dad was very sick and I needed his help. He declined, saying that he would not help. I have to tell him that he should keep whatever the problem is and save this brother. After much pleading from him, he gave me some of the two hundred and fifty thousand. He even told me to call him if the money was not enough.
Going back home, my dad's condition was really bad. I had to run out and call a cab on our way to the hospital, and he kept asking me how I got the money. I told him that he should not be wrong about how I got the money. He kept asking me if I needed to come up with one lie because if I told him that I got the money from his younger brother, he would not go to that hospital.
I have to lie to him and say that I borrowed the money from my friend so that I could save my dad’s life. I hurt lying to my dad in his face, but I have to do it because I don’t want him to die.
I know it is wrong to lie, but I have to save the life of my loved one. I think at that point, lying is the only thing that will save his life.
Even till now, I have not revealed the truth to my dad because he will be very mad at me and disappointed.
