Having a terminal illness is really terrible and I don't pray for myself or anyone to have one. But if I have a terminal illness and I need to tell my family, this is how I would go about it:
I would start by choosing a quiet and comfortable setting where we could talk privately without interruptions. It's important to create a safe and supportive environment for everyone involved.
Next, I would express my love and gratitude for each person present. I would let them know how much they mean to me and how grateful I am for their love and support throughout my life.
Then, I would gently break the news, being honest and straightforward while also being sensitive to their emotions. I would explain the diagnosis and prognosis as clearly as possible, and providing them with any necessary information.
I would encourage them to ask questions and express their feelings, making them understand that it's okay to feel a range of emotions, such as sadness, anger, and fear. I would emphasize that we're in this together and that their support means everything to me.
Throughout the conversation, I would emphasize the importance of cherishing the time we have together and making the most of every moment. I would encourage open communication and honesty, allowing everyone to express their thoughts and feelings without judgment.
We would also discuss practical matters that need to be addressed, like medical treatments, financial arrangements, and writing of will. Some people might say women don't need to have Will when they pass on but I don't believe that, I intend on having properties of my own.
I would also remind them that they're not alone in this journey. We're a team, and we'll support each other every step of the way. I would encourage them to lean on each other for support and to seek help from counselors or support groups if needed.
