Yeah, surprisingly enough, I had never tried Pokemon GO during all these years- back in the heyday I think I was either not interested or still didn't have my first smartphone yet, but even until recently I hadn't touched the game...until after several days of watching some friends play it constantly while walking as they approached some of the landmarks and plazas around here, today I had walked out for something, went to a friend's home...and for the sake of it, I installed Pokemon GO as he was heading out once again to a nearby mall just to play some more.
And that was kinda engaging, not gonna lie.
Walk that Pokemon
Of course, the main gimmick in this game is to walk around and find wild Pokemon to capture, as well as sometimes find PokeStops in local landmarks and even gyms where you can fight whatever Pokemon is left there to endure at least 8 hours for a player bonus, as well as occasional events where you can fight big Pokemon with others in order to try take it down- boss raid style.
But the way its all executed kind of feels cool when experiencing it with the way you see the streets you usually walk being displayed in the map and see the Pokemon appear- even if the map is just a very basic outline.
I had way more to describe the aspects of Pokemon GO combat...but to really cut down the filler, its simplified do a resistance fight by tapping the screen and using the skills when ready, all of which relies in your Pokemon having high stats and also weakness coming into factor. But you'll only be fighting if you stumble upon gyms and events.
What do I think about all this, then?
Well...for starters, my first experience with this basically started because of that aforementioned friend wanting to go to the mall for some Pokemon GO stuff, and to at least quell my curiosity while not feeling like I would be walking around without thinking or watching much while he's going to spent a handful of minutes focused on the game, I installed it before leaving and in a single day went from the starter Level 1 to, at the end of my trip, Level 13.
It is certainly a little game that can fill your curiosity at first to catch Pokemon on your Pokedex, but unless you are prepared to walk to those stops for catching more Pokemon nearby as well as swiping the stops for items, upgrading or evolving your Pokemon, and having a strong team assembled to attack gyms or go on boss raids with leveled up friends, there might not be much to do for you.
If you have to go out somewhere where those stops are, or even are going there solely for that with your squad, then it sure can be enjoyable as the game was designed to be, as well as rack up some walking kilometers to hatch eggs and do some missions if you have enough mobile data, but of course, if you aren't walking out that much or even don't happen to have PokeStops/Gyms nearby anywhere you go...then this is not going to do much for you at all.
Still, even though I, once again, haven't played it beyond the first day I tried it outside of a few minutes while walking to a bakery (although that's mainly because of the need to go to the plaza or the mall for the big stuff), it does at least make for a way to entertain yourself and even have an excuse to walk more than you do if there's a route of PokeStops you can follow for prizes, experience or even different Pokemon.
I still remember being surprised when walking away from the mall but to another nearby landmark, while taking to someone, I stumbled upon an Heracross. It wasn't three stars or anything...but hey, I got a Heracross!
The walking feature as well as the AR feature to show your Pokemon in a flat surface through the camera really remind me of my time with the 3DS, which at least helps a bit with how I feel about it.
In any case, I don't have much more words to add not only because I didn't want to seem as if I were retreading anything that people know, but also it might be a bit more appropiate to have more words to add whenever I have more than a single day of playing this. Bueno... para empezar, mi primera experiencia con esto empezó básicamente porque ese amigo antes mencionado quería ir al centro comercial a por algunas cosas de Pokemon GO, y para al menos calmar mi curiosidad y a la vez no sentir que iba a estar dando vueltas sin pensar ni mirar mucho mientras él va a pasar un puñado de minutos concentrado en el juego, me lo instalé antes de salir y en un solo día pasé del Nivel 1 inicial a, al final de mi viaje, el Nivel 13.
Sin duda, es un pequeño juego que puede saciar tu curiosidad al principio por atrapar Pokemon en tu Pokedex, pero a menos que estés preparado para caminar hasta esas paradas para atrapar más Pokemon cerca, así como pasar por las paradas para conseguir objetos, mejorar o evolucionar tus Pokemon, y tener un equipo fuerte montado para atacar gimnasios o ir a incursiones de jefes con amigos subidos de nivel, puede que no haya mucho que hacer para ti.
