Worries about rashes in Babies

in voilk •  2 months ago

    I have been so bothered lately about skin issues in infants, what seems like the body is developing, contributes significantly to different skin reactions from time to time. Not failing to report every minor case to medical specialists and experienced mothers, I have been laughed at several times for being extra sensitive, but would you blame me? I am just a first-time inexperienced Mum (smiles).

    Let me take you through some of my experiences friends, and what I have had to learn about different skin conditions that affect children. Babis, toddlers, children, and even up to adolescent level, can be affected by different skin conditions. Children may experience hives, acne, warts, rashes of different types, and birthmarks.

    Different types of rashes can affect children, we have the likes;

    Dermatitis: This is a general name for any condition that causes skin inflammation. These conditions may cause itchiness, dry skin, and red rashes which can happen at any age. Diaper rash, eczema, cradle cap, and contact dermatitis.

    Cradle cap: Infant seborrheic dermatitis is another name for cradle cap, it is a skin condition that has the appearance of a yellow scaly patch, surrounded by a red rash on the scalp of your baby.

    Diaper Rash: Also called diaper dermatitis, is very common amongst babies, it happens when the moisture around your baby's diaper causes irritation or growth of bacteria or fungi, which usually live in small amounts on the skin. Treating diaper rash will mean you need to keep the diaper area clean and dry all the time, before changing your child's diaper, you should leave it exposed for a little while or apply petroleum jelly or ointment to protect the baby's skin.

    Eczema: A case of eczema in a child is also known as atopic dermatitis, the presence of eczema would make the child's skin get itchy and then become red, dry, and irritated. Differences in the skin barrier of your child, and an immune system directed towards allergies cause eczema.

    When there is a barrier issue, your child's skin becomes more sensitive and prone to dryness and infections. Being able to control the symptoms of your child is the drive toward treatment, sometimes, you may just need to help your child avoid some triggers that may be allergies. A good skincare routine for a child is not difficult, you simply need to use warm water(not hot) to bathe your child and moisturize constantly, especially after exposure to water.

    Contact dermatitis: In this case, a child may most likely be reacting to an irritant or allergen found in soaps, perfumes, lotions, or paints. When a child has contact dermatitis, it creates an itchy skin rash that is sometimes painful as well.

    Some cases of rash infections may also be caused by a viral infection. We have examples such as fifth disease, roseola, measles, chicken pox, molluscum contagiosum, rubella, hand, foot, and mouth disease.

    Bacterial infections may also cause baby rash, we have the like of scarlet fever, impetigo, and fungal diseases like ringworm.

    I have learned that rashes in babies may not be a thing to worry about, they will come and go with appropriate cleanliness and home care remedy, but again we cannot conclude that all cases are the same, and that is the reason why a visit to a medical expert is important, especially if the rash is accompanied with fever or severe discomfort.
