There are things we find irritating and annoying and most times, we wish we could control them but not as they tend to be out of our control and we just let them do their thing while being patient and enduring them. These are called pet peeves and I have written on this before where I listed things I find so annoying.

Things like when someone chews loudly and unnecessarily causing noises and distractions especially when chewing gum or eating meals, some would make loud noises in their throat as they gulp down water. Another is when a lady stands and pushes her legs backwards, the funniest part is she would stand for hours in this position and not get tired.

Today, we are going digital. There are a lot of things I find so annoying as digital pet peeves. One of them is the unnecessary constant notification from group chats especially one where members just keep sending different stuff around, making noises with stickers and emojis, many times voice notes. This is why I tend to archive some group chats on WhatsApp to avoid me getting those irritable notifications.

The annoying part is when you finally check what the discussions have been all about and with over 300 messages, there is nothing relevant other than everyone lashing out words and making mockery of themselves. I was excited when I finally graduated and knew I would rest from my school WhatsApp group.

Aside from that, the most annoying digital pet peeve is ads. Oh my God, I freak out many times when I get frustrated seeing ads everywhere when I just need to get done with whatever I want to do. Most times, I get carried away watching these ads and I find myself unconsciously replaying ads especially ones that are funny while revealing my set of white teeth. Before I know what is going on, I have forgotten what took me to the site as I would start thinking why I went there in the first place.

Although some ads are educative as I have ended up downloading or exploring whatever they are advertising. On some occasions when you don't want to waste time, these ads would pop up in the middle of what you are seeing and you feel like smashing your phone because you couldn't be patient or endure anymore as they can't be skipped.

One of the places I get more annoyed is on YouTube. Ads would keep popping up every second while watching anything. One can easily get tired of seeing ads popping up more than 5 times before you finish watching a video over 20 or 30 minutes. When I need to watch a movie on YouTube, I download it to watch while my data is off to avoid unnecessary ads popping up.

Another place is with mining of airdrop. Only God knows how much I have vented my anger on these ads that I wish I could complain immediately but no matter how much you filled those options where you are asked if you enjoy a particular ad and seeing one of the options that says, "don't show me this ad again or not interested", they still bring something different which makes me get infuriated the more.

To make matters worse, some ads cannot be skipped until you wait till the seconds elapse, so you have to just accept your fate and let the rubbish thing do its work. As if that isn't enough, another one will show up in the middle of an interesting scene and you start counting down with the timer to get completed and it played back.

I have some airdrop I am mining that I don't even have a choice other than to let them do their thing and do what I want to do, then get out of the app. Airdrops like Celia, azcoiner, hamster combat and others.

This is one reason I had to pay #900 monthly for Spotify Premium to listen to music without ads disturbing my mood at that moment. Without the subscription, you cannot next a music unless it does, and this happens after listening to 2 songs and then ads show up more than twice and you have no choice but to wait till it finishes and the next song plays. Subscribing to it gives me the freedom to next a song, select one that I want and no distraction.

Since some of these ads are educative and informative, especially with those personal development apps, I still don't enjoy seeing them when I am in the middle of an interesting program but as it is, we have no control over them except we skip those can be skipped and wait for those that can't until you watch to the end. In the process of doing this, you may find yourself enjoying the advertisement while replaying it over again like me.
