PICKING A SIDE BETWEEN FOOD AND PHONE FOR A DAY

    I saw this week's prompt whiles on lunch break with my colleagues and got excited. I decided to pick two of my friends’ brains on one of the prompts about picking a side;

    "would you choose a day without your phone or without food?"

    I asked the first friend closer to me to my left.
    "Sonia, would you choose a day without phone or without food?"

    Before she could answer, I responded for her. I said hold on, you will surely choose your phone.
    Sonia started to laugh and she confirmed my answer, she said she would go for her phone any day. Then I asked her why, she told me her phone could keep her occupied the whole day she wouldn't remember she is hungry.

    It’s true, the least chance she gets will find her on her phone, speak of Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, Tik-tok and everywhere.
    She knows the latest news, the latest gossip, which celebrity is doing what. She also loves music so the next thing you see is her headphones over her head whiles she listens to her favorite songs and sing along.

    It was the second person who had her response surprising me. Vicky seemed like one who would choose food instead but she said she will choose her phone. She gave her excuses to be the fun she gets from social platforms and getting the best laugh. Plus, she also said she watches most of her movies on her phone after her laptop broke down, hence she would choose her phone.

    Both ladies threw my question back at me and this was my response.

    This was my response
    Have you heard of the saying,a hungry man is an angry man?. Aside the satisfaction and nourishment food offer to our bodies, it has a way of influencing our emotions. The energy needed to fuel our actions in order to be productive, is derived from food. In the absence of that, our emotions are negatively affected.

    I am not an expert in science but I do know some food provides our bodies with antioxidants that helps to reduce anxiety and depression. Being hungry the whole day would make you less productive as the hunger would make you weak. You are likely to stay less focused as your attention would be fixed on the rumblings in your stomach. Thinking straight and making reasonable decisions is going to be thwarted by the hunger. Being cranky is guaranteed and something which is not suppose to make you angry, will get on your nerves.

    Although my phone could get me productive in some cases, get me entertained and connected, I’d need my energy and focus, to operate the phone. In my case, if I am to choose between food and phone just for a day, I’d choose food.
