If you are ever in the Okanagan Valley area of Western Canada, this zoo should be on your list of things to do. I mean, have you ever sat on a couch with a Kangaroo? For all but the most Australian of readers the answer is probably a firm no. This zoo lets you go into the animal enclosures and hang out with the critters.
This African beauty is the friendliest Porcupine we've ever met. I fed her an apple and she loves to be pet. Just don't rub her the wrong way 😹
The porcupine was running around eating apples and trying to get attention. They're cut beasts and seem to get along well with rabbits. The only other place I've ever seen a much different looking North American Porcupine was in an apple orchard. It was not friendly.
The tortoise was not the highlight of our experience. We have seen much bigger ones before as they are a fixture in many tropical gardens. Kelowna is in one of the warmest places in Canada but they would still have to bring it inside during the winter months.
The Capybaras are always curious but they kept their distance. You can walk into their enclosure too as they are the opposite of dangerous. I believe many of the animals here are rescues, it is illegal to keep such pets and the farm is more of a sanctuary or rescue where seized exotic pets may end up.
The animals have a pretty good life here and the entry cost is rather steep which covers the costs. I've been to a few zoos that were depressing but for the most part this zoo was not. The enclosures were big enough for the animals and they did not seem to stressed out despite the amount of people, most of the animals had places to go if they were not feeling social and workers were everywhere making sure you did not harass the residents.
You can take a photo with various parrots, birds and even a sugar glider. This was indoors because birds can easily escape a fenced in enclosure.
The emu pen was the one place you would not want to enter. They are stupid, angry and aggressive birds. This one got out of it's pen, someone probably ran for their life out of there and didn't close the gate.
I'm not an expert on parrots but I know these cockatoos are talkative and can live a long time. It's best to visit them instead of keep one.
We have seen such birds in the wild, at least the ones who live in the America's. I don't think any of these parrots are from the New World, they would escape or be donated by someone who couldn't care for them. Getting a pet that lives longer than you do should not be allowed.
An albino Wallaby. They had a sign that explained the difference between Kangaroos and Wallabies, the kangaroos are generally larger. They were all in a couple large fields, you could just walk around. Some of the more aggressive male Kangaroos were in Kangaroo jail. We were just walking around and didn't listen to why they were there but it was not for meat or hide. This place is a farm in name only.
Even Kangaroos didn't like the hot Canadian sun. I thought they were from the Australian desert but apparently not. You wouldn't want to get too close to these animals or harass them as they can beat you up.
They give you some sort of leaves to feed the Kangaroos and Wallabies with. We spent a while walking around because it is just odd being able to go into such a place. I have seen zoos where you can pay a special fee and get some closer encounters but this place just lets you walk around and do your thing.
The white wallaby can look like a creature from nightmares. They didn't seem to be aggressive or mind our presence. These animals are used to Summer crowds. The Okanagan Valley is a popular tourist destination and has some of Canada's best wineries and orchards.
They had a few random chickens and goats around the farm. There were also various shows where they would feed animals, talk about them and bring some out for you to touch. They had a large snake and some other animals that make excellent photo opts for the kids at no extra charge.

Peacocks wander around some gardens, zoos and other places we have been but this one was free to go anywhere, including the parking lot.
