I am not where I want to be yet

Life is a journey and everyone has their own way of going on this journey. One of the things that gives life meaning is setting and achieving goals and aspirations. Having something to look forward to every day makes life worth living because you will always wake up every morning with a sense of purpose. It's always best to set a specific target time for our goals, but this doesn't always work for all our goals. For example, I believe everyone's goal is to be wealthy, but do you have a target time for when that will happen?

Nobody knows the exact time they will hit it rich, you can't just say "I am going to be a billionaire by the time I am 30," something like that isn't entirely in our control. Rather, the best you can do is to set a timeline towards achieving your goals. I am going to start a new business this year, I'm going to put in more hours into my work, I'm going to invest more money into stocks, these are things that are more in our control and can help you achieve your bigger goals (becoming filthy rich).

This was the route I took about two years ago as well when I was knee-deep into coding. This was back in 2022 and I was still in the university but unfortunately, all public universities in the country were shut down because the academic staff went on strike, and this strike started on the 14 of February. I took full advantage of the free time I got and went god mode on learning coding. My plan was to start working as a website developer before the year ended and things were going quite well. I enrolled in an online computer science course with Harvard University and spent hours taking the classes and doing assignments daily.

I kept praying that the strike continued so I could get done with the course and start applying for jobs or go into freelancing but unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on which side you're on 😅) the strike was called off in August, and I still wasn't done with the course. I was forced to suspend my plans when school resumed because I couldn't cope with the stress of doing two totally different courses (computer science and Fisheries). I decided to just focus on my course at the university, and when I graduate I can go back to computer science.

Well, I finally graduated last year and now I have resumed coding. I had to revisit most of the things I learned 2 years ago because I had forgotten them, which isn't surprising because I haven't done any coding during those times. Right now, I have made a lot of progress on this journey and I'm far ahead of where I left off back in 2022 but I'm still not done with the course. In the end, I realized I overestimated how long it would take me to be done with the course, and even the final project before getting my certificate would take a while to be completed.

I'm not where I want to be right now because if things had worked out according to my plans back in 2022, I probably would have been a working web developer right now with 2 years of experience in the freelancing world because I don't think I would have been able to manage a full-time job while still dealing with my studies. But all in all, I'm still happy with where I am right now because revisiting some of the concepts I have forgotten helped me to better understand them than when I first learned them 2 years ago. My plans are still in motion, they were only delayed but are still getting the much-needed attention right now and things will work out well this year.
