If you're into gardening, there's no better time of year than right now! This is the time when peak anticipation meets head-on with taking action; when all of the winter planning goes into effect; when we finally get see the first of our little babies - those precious seeds that will become our spring and summer obsessions - poke their first little leaves up through the soil to say hello.
Oh, its a wondrous time, indeed!
But, if you're like me, and you've been busy over the past few months - too busy to have all of your seeds bought and ready to go, I may have found a solution for your problem.
If you're looking for a seed company that only deals in heritage, heirloom, and open pollinated seed varieties that are guaranteed to be non-GMO, then this may be one that you want to check out. Seeds Now has TON of different seed varieties ranging from vegetables and herbs to flowers, root crops, and even micro-greens. Heck, you can even get a variety of heirloom, non-GMO wheat if you're looking to really bake your own bread from scratch!
With a focus on many of the more tried-and-true heirloom seed varieties, you're not going to find as many of the crazy, outrageous vegetables on Seeds Now that you might get from someone like Baker Creek. But, there are still some pretty interesting oddities! A few things that caught my eye were the Tongue of Fire Bush Beans, the Turkish Orange Eggplant, and the Chocolate Cherry Tomato.
Theme Packs
Another cool feature on Seeds Now is their offering of Variety Packs based on all kinds of different themes. Some packs contain different varieties of a particular vegetable, like the All-In-One Tomato Variety Pack. Others focus on plants that act as mosquito repellants in the garden or things that you can cultivate at home if you want to grow your own chicken food. There are a ton of different packs to choose from, and each one comes with 15 or more different seed pack varieties. They're definitely worth checking out! And, there are several different ways that you can navigate the site. Of course, if you already know what you're looking for, you can just use the search bar at the top of the page. If you're interesting in browsing your options for a particular vegetable, herb, or flower, you can use the 'All Seeds' drop down menu. You can view their entire catalogue in alphabetical order arranged by vegetable type. Or (and I thought this was super cool) you can search for plants that fit a certain "personality type" such as "can tolerate hot temperatures" or "matures in <45 days".
My Initial Impression
My initial impression of Seeds Now is pretty positive. They have a good offering of heirloom and open pollinated seeds that are guaranteed to be non-GMO and 100% untreated. Their pricing seems competitive, and they offer various pack sizes for their seeds. Most varieties have options of a Sample Pack (usually 10-15 seeds), a Large Pack (varies depending on the variety), and sometimes even bulk purchases of up to a pound. While exploring the sight just before starting this post, I did notice that several items were out of stock, so it looks like I may be a little late to the Seeds Now party. But, I am excited to order a few things and see how their seeds come packed in the mail.
If you've ever ordered from SeedsNow.com, I'd love to hear about your experience, and if you find anything there that you like after reading this post, let me know what ordered down in the comments!
