The country Ghana: what I love about the motherland.

Ghana was the first country in Africa to gain independence from colonial rule in the year 1957 by the Nkrumah-led government. Today being the 67th year since we were free from colonial rule, I want to share with you all some of the best things I love about the country.

One thing I love and cherish in the motherland is the level of peace in it. Ghana might not be one of the most peaceful countries in the world but it's also very far from being a part of the deadliest places in the world and I'm so grateful and thankful for that.

I like the way everyone can go about his daily business without so much fear and panic. If not for the fact that in recent years the percentage of bad people has quite increased in some places, you could walk around even at midnight without fear. You can still do but not everywhere; there are just a few places where you can't.
Apart from that, you have the freedom to do whatever you want as long as it's the right thing to do and that's one of the things I like about this country.

Another thing I admire is the kind of people here, their level of respect and hospitality. The people are so lovely and hospitable. They care and have compassion. It's something that has been embedded in them, values and virtues. They are also very friendly and easy to talk to. Your car can break down in the middle of the road and you'll get at least 3-4 people coming over to check up and offer help without really expecting anything in return. I feel like it's how they were raised.

Most Ghanaians were raised with morals and the mentality that you need to offer help to people when you see them in need. Even though nowadays because of security people are very cautious when offering help, they still do and that's so lovely of them.

One more thing I'll talk about that I love about my country is their food. Oh, my goodness, their food is divineee. In fact, it's heaven-sent. Let me tell you something, if you're in a bad mood or frustrated, just try to take a well-prepared Ghanaian dish; your mood will change instantly. Their dishes are so good and one thing about it is that it takes a long time before you'll get hungry again after you take it. Let's take the almighty Fufu as an example. If you take it around 11:00am, and you're not a heavy eater like me, you'll be fine till maybe 3:50 pm or 4:00pm.

If you ever get the chance to come to Ghana, just give me a call or pass by my place and you'll attest to what I'm saying.
Ghana is an amazing country amidst all its flaws and troubles, and it always feels like home even for foreigners.
