What is it good for?

Would I take up arms and kill a stranger I have no beef with because some politician ordered me to? Would I heck! I’d leave that to the men!:)

I’m one of those conspiracy nutters who believe that the same kakistocracy runs the entire world; puppet masters who control the world’s governments. I consider wars to be contrived for mainly financial reasons, a foolproof way to move huge sums from the public purse into private hands, while at the same time wreaking havoc in the life of the ordinary man. To quote Sartre ‘When the rich wage war, it's the poor who die.’

If rules for war can be agreed upon, why not rules against war? If we can decide who the world’s best athletes are through competition, why not determine who wins the war with a board game like Risk or Game of Thrones? Since war must eventually end in peace, why not skip the war part? No, I couldn’t get involved in anything so ridiculous and illogical as war.

As to the defence of my family and country, well, I’d engage in peaceful resistance. I’m very nimble and have spent my life duckin’ and divin‘, so I reckon I'd make a fine guerrilla. I mean who’d suspect a little aul wan like me?

However, if prison was the only alternative to conscription, how bad could it be? I read an article recently describing an English prison with a coffee shop where you can meet your visitors and even a kiddie's playroom. Besides, prison would be full of errant rebels like myself and we'd have a breakout organised in no time.
