I'll start strong and one of my favorite musicals by this director is Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street.
Empezaré fuerte y es que uno de mis musicales preferidos de este director es Sweeney Todd: El Barbero Demoniaco de la calle Fleet.
Benjamin Baker is a talented barber who has a beautiful wife and daughter, however his idyllic life is fractured when Judge Tupin (the highest authority in town) becomes obsessed with Benjamin's wife, so he frames him for stealing, runs him out of town, He abuses Benjamin's wife and takes their daughter to raise her and later when she grows up, he intends to marry her as she is the very essence of her mother (that's how shady the man is). Benjamin returns with a new identity, Sweet Todd, with the clear idea of getting revenge and getting his daughter back, but unfortunately, everything ends terribly wrong.

The songs, as expected, are quite somber and go perfectly with the narrative intention of the story, my favorite is "My Friends" performed by Sweedney Todd (Johnny Deep) and sings to his "friends" the razors, and although knowing it is not uncommon that he has great affection for them since he is a barber, his body expression and gestures, as well as the lyrics of the song suggest to you that something dark is hidden, and that his "metaphors" are not so much metaphors as a "fancy" way of revealing his sinister plans, plans that are exposed as the film progresses. Las canciones como es de esperarse, son bastante sombrías y van perfectamente con la intención narrativa de la historia, mi preferida es "My Friends" interpretada por Sweedney Todd (Johnny Deep) y le canta a sus "amigas" las navajas, y aunque sabiendo no es raro que les tenga gran cariño ya que es un barbero, su expresión corporal y sus gestos, además de la letra de la canción te sugieren que algo turbio hay escondido, y que sus "metáforas" no son tan metáforas sino una forma "elegante" de revelar sus siniestros planes, planes que quedan expuestos con el avance del film. Another film I love of this type is The Corpse Bride, a Stop Motion animation also directed by Tim Burton and starring Johnny Deep and Helena Boham Carter as well.

Victor is a boy who is being forced to marry Victoria, his family has a lot of money but not a good social position, while Victoria's family has a good social position but not economic, both families in a very hypocritical plan, do not support each other but want to get the benefit of each other, sacrificing the happiness of their children, however and fortunately both fall in love but by mistake Victor ends up marrying a corpse and is dragged to the underworld tied to Emily, the corpse of an old girlfriend.
Victor es un muchacho que está siendo obligado a casarse con Victoria, su familia tiene mucho dinero pero no una buena posición social, mientras que la de Victoria si que tiene buena posición social más no económica, ambas familias en un plan muy hipócrita, no se soportan pero quieren obtener el beneficio de la otra, sacrificando la felicidad de sus hijos, sin embargo y afortunadamente ambos muchachos se enamoran, pero por error, Victor termina desposando a un cadáver y es arrastrado al inframundo atado a Emily, el cadáver de una antigua novia.
All the musical composition is amazing and accompanies the film very well, however if there is one that stands out is "Tears to Shed" Emily (the corpse) feels very sad since she just found out that the illusion she had with Victor was just that, because he has a fiancée before her, so she feels less and betrayed, since Victoria is alive, therefore Emily feels that Victoria is better than her, and that is why Victor will never love her, because also, and the most serious thing, is that he is in love with Victoria. So that's what she expresses in the song while her friends try to cheer her up.
Toda la composición musical es asombrosa y acompaña muy bien a la cinta, sin embargo si hay una que destaque es "Una lágrima que dar" Emily (el cadáver) se siente muy triste ya que acaba de enterarse de que la ilusión que tenía con Victor era solo eso porque él tiene una prometida antes que ella, así que Emily se siente menos y traicionada, ya que Victoria si que esta viva, por lo tanto Emily siente que Victoria es mejor que ella, y por eso Victor nunca la querrá, porque además, y lo más grave, es que está enamorado de Victoria. Así que es lo que expresa en la canción mientras sus amigos intentan animarla.
Helena Boham Carter brings a lot of emotion to her performance and the truth is that it is quite moving. I'll leave you below for you to understand what I'm talking about.
