Making salads using home grown greens

We gathered some food from the garden and put it all together into a tasty meal. Adding a few different kinds of basil, some sugar snap peas and butter crunch lettuce and red lettuce. And then some store bought veggies were added as well but much of it is made from our garden.

The basil smells so amazing, its been getting stronger out on the deck and seems happy. Lots of it for us to pick and season the salad with. The lettuce we are growing as well has been getting big so it was perfect time to take some and make a salad.

The leaves right from the garden, they have some mud on them but we will wash all that off.

This is enough to make two big salads when we add additional vegetables.

I love the color of this red lettuce. Looking forward to trying out some other varieties next year.

And the purple basil along with the green varieties is very nice too. Soon we will make some pesto with lots of it that is growing.

Once the lettuce is washed off we pat dry them as well using paper towels. We leave it there until ready to add.

Its almost ready to build the salad, just need to cook the store bought veggies and make a dressing for the salad.

Using a vinaigrette we make a nice oil based dressing. Came out real tasty.

Its all ready to eat, we served it with some bread on the side to enjoy as well. Everything included in this salad is ground beef, bacon, broccoli, carrots, onion. And our own grown lettuce, sugar snap peas and basil.

The lettuce tasted so fresh, being picked just an hour before we ate it. So it was perfect and could not ask for much better. The peas we used are probably the last of this season that will grow, its getting quite hot and they have seemed to have stopped flowering now.
