What a marvellous sunny day! Actually, it was the hottest day so far this year in England at 20°C.
I set off on a mountain bike ride to Ardingly Reservoir. Starting midday, it was already quite warm, so I only required a single layer of clothing.
This was a lengthy ride on both tarmac roads and the essential off-road sections, which I always like to do.
The reservoir was gorgeous and looked refreshing in the bright sunshine. I couldn't see any water sports today but in summer this is very popular here.
For the route back, I was stumped by some forest clearance work in Cowdray. I had to choose another route. This required a little more minor tarmac road. Along the road, I remembered a shortcut via a footpath, which was closed for a while due to a dangerous stone bridge. The gate was open, so I took the track. Happily, the bridge had been removed and replaced by filling the gulley with an earthen bank. It looked good.
I pressed on! After emerging from Worth Abbey grounds, I crossed the road into the Paddockhurst woodland estate. A nice slow descent to Maidenbower.
Here, the tracks get a bit more difficult in places. Narrow or wet, or both! 😁 .
My rides always include a wide range of different tracks, roads, and sometimes obstacles such as footbridges.
This one crosses the mainline London to Brighton railway, which today, I have crossed no less than four times in different places!
It was a good long ride at 19 miles. A sign of what is to come this summer. 😜
I stopped at Tilgate Lake for some refreshment and to take in the lovely view.
