DIY/ Recycling Paper To Make A Love Symbol.

Every month is the month of love, I show love and kindness to people around me every day because I feel like it's the right thing to do.

I tag love as a powerful feeling that is capable of changing a lot of things for us as an individual and the world as a whole. If love could make two people live in harmony for the rest of their lives, it could change the world if we allow it to blossom among us.

The Diyhub theme for this month is LOVE and I had lots of ideas but couldn't conclude on one until now. I finally made an entry for the contest and the outcome of my efforts was fantastic.

I thought of making a love symbol but not the ordinary way so I got the necessary materials to craft the masterpiece.

    The Material I Used Are;

    • Cardboard
    • Glue
    • Nail polish
    • Paper.

I got the paper from someone who wanted to dispose some used workbook and thought it would be perfect to make the love symbol I had in mind.

I started by removing the sheets from the middle because I needed both pages together. The combined page is what would give me the size of the symbol I intend to make.

I held the tip of the paper with a broomstick and rolled the broomstick which automatically rolled the paper as well.

    The paper cane

I rolled the paper to the end and applied gum at the end to make it stick together. It looked like a cane and I held it for some seconds to ensure it dried properly.

I repeated the process with the paper and made over thirty canes with the paper. I made sure it was tight to prevent it from loosing while using them later.

I went on to cut a large love shape with the paper, I joined about four pieces of paper together to get the exact size I needed.

To get a perfect shape, I folded the paper and drew half of the love shape.

I cut out the half and since the paper was folded, it became a full love shape when I unfolded it.

I placed the love shape on the bench and arranged the paper cane vertically.

I left small spaces between the paper cane even though the spaces weren't equal.

After properly arranging the paper canes vertically, I applied glue to just one side of the remaining paper cane and arranged them horizontally on the vertically arranged paper canes.

I made sure that I left spaces between the horizontal paper cane as well and it looked like a net even though the holes were bigger.

Immediately I successfully arranged these canes properly, I reduced the love shape because it was bigger than the cane length.

I then marked the paper cane with a pen, I marked the love shape and went on to cut the paper cane into the love shape with a blade.

After cutting out the love shape, I felt happy because that was the most challenging part for me.

I moved on to painting the paper cane love shape with the nail polish, I hope my wife doesn't find out early because I took it from her box.

I ran out of black nail polish and decided to use red since the colour matched properly.

I applied the red nail polish to the remaining parts of the paper cane love shape and the colours blended in well with each other.

I set the love shape aside to dry and made a flower with the cardboard.

I cut out a rectangular shape and folded it four times.

I drew the shape below on one face or the rectangle and cut it out.

I got the shape and placed them one after the other. I joined them with glue and got the beautiful flowers below.

I attached the flowers to the paper cane love shape with glue and they added so much beauty to the love shape.

I allowed it to dry as well and the outcome was superb. Intended to use this piece of art in my bedroom but I changed my mind because such beauty mustn't be hidden.

I hung it in my living room and it's perfect.
