Calling Out - Have you ever been called out by someone, a friend, a relative, or even a stranger, probably to correct you on something wrong that you did or did not do? What was it and how did you react to it?

For someone stubborn but calm, withdrawn and quiet and never bends to anyone's plea, especially those who I view are taking advantage of the other side of me that they get to know first before finding out I could be stubborn and difficult to manipulate or maneuver the way they want.

Truth be told, I have had so many calls out, for speaking my mind, for just being silent and unbothered about a situation, for standing up for someone, and for paying people back in their coin and that's fine by me because I would always do it, over and over again.

I was called out last year by a colleague because I refused to succumb to the "I am older than you" treatment they give most of my other departmental colleagues. Well, this time around, she brought this treatment and bullying close to my friends, my colleagues who happen to be my friends are quite younger so, she decided to harass one of them who is especially quiet.

Since I was the eldest among my friends, I wasn't going to let anyone bully them, so I told her to her face to take what she dishes out to others and if she could not, she should let others be. If she thinks she is better than others and sees others as dumb why would she be in school and at the same level as those who are far younger than her, if she isn't dumb? I also told her she has no right to call anyone dumb, she didn't help anyone write the exams that got them into this school.

The thing is, she called me out when I wasn't in school after the confrontation, only for me to go to school the next week and was told by a friend about the incident and decided to confront her but my friends told me to let her be.

In the year 2018 when I was staying with my maternal aunt and her kids who happen to be my cousins, I remember being called out by her aunt and my younger cousins for standing up and defending myself against my cousin's brutal treatment who is just one year older than me. The truth is, they called me out not because of anything but because they were both shocked that a day would come when I would one day look at them in their face and tell them to go to hell. I would prefer to sleep on the streets of Uyo than live with them.

Now, this is what happened, my cousin asked me to lend her some money and promised to pay soon, I didn't have any issues because of the position I was in the establishment even though we both worked in the same establishment, I always had tip and knew I could sustain myself throughout the month with the tips I get from customers and even till when our employer decides to pay us.

Even though I had a sick mother I usually sent a monthly allowance to her, I didn't bother, because I knew I could raise the money without my salary, and I obliged. All of a sudden my cousin started giving me too many issues. She was always behind my back accusing me of theft to my boss and looking for ways to smear my name in front of my boss and his wife.

Well, one day, she bullied me and I reciprocated her actions back and told her to never in her entire life try shit with me, she went back home to report and before I got home, her mom and herself were already waiting for me, claiming I was feeling too big and talking back at my cousin because of the money I borrowed her.

Truth is, that very day, I was ready for them, so I stood there and gave both of them a piece of my mind and when I was done, I picked up my luggage and left their house. Although it was late, against their plea to stay till the next day, I refused and left their home.

It's been years, not set my eyes on that family after I left, this does not mean that I am perfect, because I am conscious of the phrase "Do unto others, what you want others to do to you", I am couscous of how I treat people, and make them feel, I put myself in their shoes before I take action, act, talk to or respond to them.
