Nadi makes a friend in the neighborhood!

Nadi, my dog, is extremely fussy about who she will socialize with. For the most part and because of her rather secluded and away from other dogs childhood, she mostly is interested in other dogs from afar but if they get up and close, she mostly just wants them to leave her alone. One of her least favorite things is having puppies around her and she quickly gets annoyed and will bark at them to get away from her.

She is more at home on a table top than she is roaming around on the ground with other dogs and if she does encounter another dog I have to stay on my toes because she will initiate some sort of friction. Not really aggression, but she will bark at them to keep their distance and some dogs take that as aggression and since Nadi is small and old she is not capable of defending herself... not that I would want her to ever try. The few times I have seen her get into a bit of a scrap she almost always immediately cowers and that is fine by me. I don't want a terror dog that tries to maim other animals that get close to her.

Well the other day we were on a "poopy walk" perusing the garbage covered streets in my neighborhood when I heard a little "yip" and this similarly sized dog that was all fluffy and clean came running across the road. I had seen this dog before but hadn't really had a chance to introduce it to Nadi.

We all know how dogs make their introductions and this was no exception. I don't think that Nadi even realized he was there until he accidentally made contact with her and then after he did Nadi turned around, sniffed him back, and then the two of them just went about their business of sniffing and exploring.

No attempts were made to play with one another and I think this is a major part of why the two of them appeared to get along to a certain degree. Mostly they were content to be in the same space, share that space, but not get all up in one another's business. The wandered around this sidewalk area for 5 minutes or so and then the brown fluffball with long front legs scampered on back to the business that he lives in.

As quickly as this doggo introduced himself he was also gone in a similarly un-ceremonial fashion. Nadi was not at all disappointed that he left but the fact that she didn't freak out when he was around is something that is actually pretty special in her life. Nadi really just wants all other dogs to stay away from her so the fact that she didn't get bitchy and chase him off right away was quite an accomplishment in our world.

I went on the rest of the walk with kind of a sense of happiness because it is extremely rare that my dog gets along with any other dog. I will return to this place with some level of hope that this little guy is frequently outside in that area.

After a couple of kilometers of walking we were back at home and after her expected "treaty-pie" for a successful walk, she headed right back to her sofa pillows for a day of sleeping in different positions. I wonder if she even remembers meeting her new friend? Well, we are going to go back there several times a week and hopefully see him again.
