"The Seven Sisters" books series is a series of eight historical novels written by Lucinda Riley. The series is very loosely based on the Pleiades sisters' myth, but doesn't take place that far along in the past. In fact, two hundred years is the oldest these books go. I loved these books so much. The moment that you start a book, you can't put it down and then you have to continue to the next one. Even though technically each book is also a standalone book, there is an overarching plot and a sense of mystery that hovers in the background. These books are so expertly written and are just almost magical. Although they occasionally fall into the love story sub-plot genre. Still, they are wonderful.

The books follow a group of six sisters which were adopted separately by Pa Salt, their mysterious, wealthy and secluded father. After his very mysterious death the sisters are left with clues to help them search for their biological family. Each book follows each individual sister. Her story takes place in present time, but we also get the perspectives of her ancestors in the past. No book has the same plot as the previous book. Each historical part takes place in a different period of time and a different part of the world and all of the sisters are totally different from each other. Each book also revolves around an important person or event in history and the mystery that surrounds it. There is also the subject of the missing seventh sister and their father's life which is the subject of the last two books.

Unfortunately, Lucinda Riley passed away before she could finish writing the series. Her son, Harry Whittaker, finished writing the finale book of the series: "Atlas: The Story of Pa Salt," which is expertly crafted. It brings the story to a full closer by finally explaining the life story of their father and how and why he adopted all of the sisters and his own amazing life story. Unfortunately, you can tell that the writing is different in this story as it is more different and less expertly written. You feel it the most in the seventh book "The Missing Sister" which may have been co-written, because it feels a bit all over the place and less coherent then most of the books in the series. But it is still, overall, an amazing book series.

The journey that you take with these books is a unique global encompassing journey. A journey full of sisterly love, special bonds, history, magic, sadness, loss and recovery, children and parents and family. You will learn about the world so much and all while feeling that it is actually our own reality that is slightly magical.
