Hello everyone. Last year we visited the town of Bacharach on the Rhine river. This place is so charming that it feels like you're in a fairy tale. The town is surrounded by lush green vineyards and centuries-old historic houses, making it look like an open-air museum. There are so many half-timbered houses here that you could walk around and take pictures without ever putting your phone away.
We walked onto the main street of the old town, where there were some relatively newer houses. But then we decided to turn back and explore the side streets. First we wanted to see what else was on the main street. This area had more modern-style houses. I had wanted to visit this town for a long time, but I never had the chance. After wandering around a bit, we turned back because this part looked more like a modern residential area.
We returned to the old town and started wandering through the narrow streets. The houses are so close to each other! On the other hand it was also possible to hike up to the castle. The views along the Rhine River were breathtaking, not only the Moselle but also the Rhine offers beautiful scenery.
There was a pigeon sitting there with water in front of it. Was it sick? Poor thing it had water, but still, it made us feel sad.
We arrived at the back of a church, an Evangelical church. There were also the ruins of an old church here, which had apparently been damaged by fire.
The town has many historic houses. One of the houses had the year it was built written on it: 1897. The one next to it dated back to 1438-1450. The town seems to be divided into different periods from the 1400s to the 1800s. It’s beautiful.
The town is small but absolutely stunning. Then we headed towards the town hall (Rathaus), which was built in 1994. Later we climbed up to the city walls, where you can actually walk along them.
When we visited, there was a Musical Night festival taking place on the Rhine, so music was playing everywhere. The atmosphere was quite unique! There was also a small museum here and I believe you had to pay an entrance fee to hear stories related to the Loreley legend. Next to it, there was a little machine that you could activate for 10 cents, it seemed to be part of a cable car system.
Various products were being sold here, including honey, fruit juice, jam... Everything looked delicious. They also had grape juice. There was another castle up on the hill, but since it was a very hot day, we didn’t climb up. Maybe next time, we’ll visit again or explore more castles along the Rhine river.
