Where to start
It all started last year ...
In my previous edition of ttt Happy Hogmanay Happy New Year with ttt 188
I played Alive and Kicking by the Scottish band Simple Minds...
Following on from a comment by @thebighigg I decided to keep it simple and a have ttt dedicated to Simple Minds.
Simple Minds are a Scottish rock band formed in Glasgow in 1977 and are probably best known for their anthemic sound and soaring vocals.
I have seen them a few times over the years, twice in huge stadiums and yeah a hell of a good time.
They are still touring and making records. Last count they had over 20 albums. They were the most commercially successful Scottish band of the 1980s, and even though they were Celtic fans, you couldn't help but like them!
But as my beloved Rangers beat Celtic 3-0 to kick off the year, all is forgiven and so we can listen to three of their most iconic tunes...
Simple Minds - Don't You (Forget About Me)
Some of you movie buffs may well recognise Don't You (Forget About Me) because it featured in the iconic film The Breakfast Club. It became an anthem for a generation with its powerful vocals and unforgettable chorus.
Don't You (Forget About Me) is Simple Minds' biggest international hit and was released in 1985. It topped the US charts and reached number 7 in the UK.
As the song was written for the film, Simple Minds weren't initially going to sing it ... but they did and made it their own and I can tell you that hearing it sung from fifty thousand people is pure dead mental!
Simple Minds - Sanctify Yourself
Now we move forward a year to 1986 and Simple Minds' Once Upon a Time album.
Sanctify Yourself got to number 10 in the UK.
This might be your earworm for the day...
Sanctify yourself
Sanctify yourself
Be a part of me
Sacrifice yourself
Simple Minds - Promised You A Miracle
This is the earliest tune for this ttt. Promised You a Miracle was released in 1982 and was also Simple Minds' breakthrough hit and got to number 13 in the UK.
Even though this was more of a pop type song of the time, I loved it.
Talking of love, Jim Kerr the lead singer of Simple Minds married Chrissie Hynde of The Pretenders in 1984. The Pretenders were another favourite band of mine and I think will be the topic of next week's ttt!
Which was your favourite Simple Minds tune?
One of those 3 or maybe it was from last week ...
Alive and Kicking...
Note: The 4 YouTube videos that I have shared are not owned by me, I am simply spreading great music on Hive.
I wish that you all have a brilliant happy and prosperous New Year in 2025 and until we meet again enjoy your tunes 🎶🎵🎶
Thanks for visiting!
