Sometimes, we come across interesting people and make new friends in the most unexpected ways. It's funny how life works, and meeting new people can lead to building new relationships that feel like family. Recently, my partner started working as a motorcycle taxi driver, and we've been introduced to a lot of new people through this job. I'm grateful for all the new friends and acquaintances we've made. Today, we're celebrating my partner’s colleague ‘s birthday, and we'd love for you to join us.
We had a great time celebrating the birthday of my newly found friend; this is a photo of the birthday boy and his girlfriend. As their apartment lacked space and did not allow loud noises, they chose to celebrate at our place, which we happily accepted.
My partner is passionate about cooking, having worked at one of the biggest restaurants in the Philippines, and he took charge of preparing all the food.
It was a fun experience for us all, and we enjoyed sharing the meal with our friends. Here is the list of dishes we prepared:
Grilled pork is one of the most popular dishes to pair with alcoholic beverages in the Philippines, and likely in many other countries as well. Locally referred to as ””pulutan", (pulut) is a Filipino word which means to pick it up, it is often enjoyed as an appetizer alongside beer or other favorite drinks. During our recent birthday celebration, we made sure to include grilled pork as a favorite pulutan to accompany the boys' drinks and add to the fun atmosphere.
Braised Pork or Humba is another Filipino favorite during special occasions. This is one of my partner’s favorite food to cook, also.
Halang-halang is a Cebuano dish for chopped chicken parts added with many spices including a lot of chili. Halang is a Cebuano word for spicy. So this means spicy chicken. Just another Filipino favorite.
Another food my partner prepared is menudo this is pork mixed with potatoes, carrots and any other spices and ingredients and some tomato sauce and tomato paste.
Of course, a birthday will never be complete without a birthday cake. The birthday boy also had his birthday cake and we all had a slice of it.
