10 Things You Should NEVER Say to a Programmer! 🤯💻

in voilk •  2 months ago

Programming is a tough skill that requires logic, patience, and a ton of caffeine ☕. Yet, we know that programmers constantly hear annoying and frustrating questions from non technical people. Some of these comments might seem innocent, but trust me—they drive developers crazy! 🧑‍💻🔥

So, if you don't want to anger a programmer, NEVER say these things! ⛔🚫

Can you hack my friend's Instagram?

🤦 No, just because I write code doesn’t mean I’m a hacker! Not every programmer is a cybercriminal from a Hollywood movie. Writing software is not the same as hacking into accounts. Plus, hacking is illegal, and we like to keep our skills ethical. 😎

    Can you fix my Wi-Fi?

A programmer is not your personal IT support technician. Sure, we work with computers, but we don’t magically fix every tech problem. If your internet is slow, turn it off and on again—that works 90% of the time. 😆

This should be easy for you, right?

Oh, so you’re a coding expert now? 🤨 Many people assume that programming is just a few clicks, but every little task takes time and effort. Even "simple" tasks require debugging, testing, and dealing with unexpected errors. The next time you think something is easy, try coding it yourself! 😏

Can you build me an app/website for free?

Ah, yes, the classic "work for exposure" request. Developers spend years learning their craft, and coding is not a hobby we do for fun (unless we’re passionate nerds 🤓). Would you ask a chef to cook you a meal for free? No? Then don’t ask a programmer to build an entire app for free! 💰

Why don’t you just use AI to do it?

Sure, AI can help write code, but it’s not a magic replacement for programmers. AI still makes mistakes, needs human supervision, and doesn’t understand complex projects the way an actual developer does. Trust us, if AI could code perfectly, we’d all be out of jobs already. 😆

    Programming is just typing, right?

If it were that easy, everyone would be a programmer! Writing code is about problem-solving, logic, debugging, and creativity. The actual typing part? That’s only 10% of the job. The rest is staring at the screen, fixing bugs, and wondering why nothing is working. 😅

Can you teach me programming in a week?

Learning to code takes months or even years, depending on the complexity. Asking a programmer to teach you everything in a week is like saying, "Can I become a doctor in a month?" Not gonna happen. Start with basic tutorials, online courses, and a lot of practice.

Oh, you’re a coder? Can you fix my Excel?

Developers don’t live inside Excel. Excel formulas are NOT programming (unless we’re talking about VBA, and even then… 🙃). A programmer working with Python, JavaScript, or C++ has zero interest in fixing your spreadsheets. Try Googling your problem first! 😆

Why are you using [X] programming language? I heard [Y] is better.

Nothing triggers a flame war faster than comparing programming languages. Everyone has their favorite:

Some love Python 🐍, some prefer Java ☕, others swear by C++ 🔥. But telling a developer that their choice is wrong? That’s an instant fight. 😡💥

Why is this taking so long?

Oh, I don’t know… maybe because coding is HARD? Debugging errors, optimizing performance, and handling security all take time. Saying this is like telling an artist, "Why aren’t you done painting yet?" 😤

💡 Final Thoughts Next time you meet a programmer, avoid these annoying comments unless you want to see them rage-quit life. 😂 Instead, try saying:

✔️ "Wow, that’s impressive! I respect what you do."

✔️ "I’d love to learn more about how coding works!"

✔️ "Let me buy you a coffee to thank you for your help." ☕ (Seriously, we love coffee!)
