Durante 45 días estuve corriendo mi propio servidor físico, fue una gran experiencia por el aprendizaje obtenido, eso para mi es lo más valioso. Pero luego de pasados estos días de pruebas tengo conclusiones y he tomado una decisión que la verán en la imagen que compartiré abajo.

Razones puedo tener muchas, pero principalmente es por la estabilidad de la conexión a internet y las interrupciones al suministro de energía que lamentablemente tenemos aún en la región. Y es esto lo que me ha llevado a apagar mi servidor físico local y a encender un VPS.
A pesar de ser una muy buena máquina la laptop que estuve usando como servidor, no terminaba de ocupar los recursos que esta me provee, hablamos de 12GB de Ram, un I3 de 8 núcleo y 128 GB de espacio en disco, eso para mi, y lo que requiero ahora va de sobra. El principal problema son las intermitencias que tiene a ciertas horas mi conexión a internet, que a pesar que pueden no ser perceptibles y contar con poco más 150 Mbps simétricos, para algunos procesos que tengo corriendo en el servidor parece que si, eso requería mi intervención diaria, lo cual trato de evitar.
Otro aspecto es el consumo de energía, que a pesar de ser un equipo de bajo consumo, tiene su peso en la factura mensual, pero es cierto que es menor al costo de un VPS con los requerimientos que necesito, aún así no me compensa.
También he considerado que el mantener un equipo conectado en casa 24/7 puede ser un riesgo por alguna avería que pueda tener y ocasionar un incendio que sería catastrófico, este riesgo no compensa el ahorro. Yo suelo interrumpir la energía en casi todo la casa cuando todos estamos fuera de ella, por dos razones, ahorro de energía y el riesgo mencionado anteriormente. Tener un servidor me impedía seguir con esta práctica.
Por último está la depreciación del equipo, que al no estar preparado para un uso con este fin, puede acortar su tiempo de vida, tanto el procesador como el disco duro. Una razón más para elegir una VPS.
El tener un VPS me ofrece más ventajas que desventajas, el costo pudiera ser una desventajas, pero haciendo un balance y sabiendo exactamente lo que necesito en cuanto a consumo de Ram, procesador y espacio en disco, el contratar un servidor virtual a la medida abarató mucho los costos. También hay que considerar que estos servicios son escalables, es decir, si en un futuro necesitara más requerimiento de la máquina pudiera solicitarlo al proveedor lo que incrementa el costo a la factura mensual pero ajustado a las necesidades.

I usually turn off the power to almost everything in the house when we are all out of it, for two reasons, energy savings and the risk mentioned above. Having a server prevented me from continuing this practice.
Finally, there is the depreciation of the equipment, which, since it is not prepared for use for this purpose, can shorten its lifespan, both the processor and the hard drive. One more reason to choose a VPS.
Having a VPS offers me more advantages than disadvantages, the cost could be a disadvantage, but taking stock and knowing exactly what I need in terms of Ram consumption, processor and disk space, hiring a custom virtual server makes it cheaper. much costs.
