#Wednesday Walk - In Umhlanga on a Quiet Day in the Middle of the Week

in voilk •  4 months ago

This post is for the #wednesdaywalk challenge and the #makemesmile challenge collaboration. This collaboration initially took place once a month, but due to its popularity, @tattoodjay (of the #wednesdaywalk) and @elizacheng (of #makemesmile) decided to make it a weekly thing.

If you want to know more about the rules, visit this week's post by @tattoodjay where you will find all the rules at the bottom of his post after you've enjoyed his beautiful photos from his walk.

Last week it was time for me to take our car for a service. Some time ago, I had what you can call... "a difference in opinion"...with the workshop manager of the workshop closer to us, so I now prefer taking our car to Umhlanga for its services, even though it's 30 km away from us. I don't consider that as being far anyhow...

If it is within a radius of 15 km, the workshop in Umhlanga does have a shuttle service available if you need to go to work or somewhere else while they service your car. So, I am not able to make use of their shuttle service.

I decided to wait for our car. They have a comfortable waiting area with a coffee machine where you can help yourself to some coffee while waiting. I decided to take my laptop with me and catch up on some work while waiting. Then, after they were done with the car, I would use the opportunity to get some photos for today's post.

By about 10:30 am, they were done, and I was mobile again.

I went down to the ocean first to capture some shots.

It was a cloudy day and the clouds got lower and thicker as time passed.

In my first photo for today, I approached the well-known Whalebone Pier. Many of you will know this pier by now from many of my previous posts. But I love taking photos at this pier.

Another well-known beacon of this area that I love taking photos of, is the Umhlanga Lighthouse.

As I walked onto the pier and glanced to the right, it was just at the right moment to see the lighthouse from an angle which I hadn't taken a photo yet.

I walked onto the pier and took another shot of the lighthouse when I had a clear view from there.

The beach was quiet as it was a normal work day in the middle of the week. A guy was sitting on the beach just below the pier. But he was clearly more interested in his phone than in the beauty of the ocean in front of him...lol!

A little later I took another shot of the lighthouse, zooming in a bit more.

On the opposite side of the pier, to the north, some snorkel divers were walking around on the rocks. Normally, they would be diving in the shallow water, but it looked like they found something while walking around in the water between the rocks at this point.

In the background, you can see another guy on a paddleboard in the water. Yes...it's not a guy walking on the water...lol!

Another shot of the guy on the paddleboard in the distance. If you look closely, you'll also see a surfer paddling toward deeper water to the left of the guy on the paddle board (the wave is between them).

I loved the crystal clear water between the rocks below me.

I'll end this post with some ships on the horizon.
