Vila Real, a city located in the heart of Trás-os-Montes, has always had a special place in my heart, especially after my first visit when I was just seven years old. At the time, the trip was an invitation from my father, who was going to the city for work, and asked if I wanted to accompany him. The promise of "touching the clouds" became an unforgettable memory. The trip was marked by a dense fog that covered the mountains, and, as surreal as it may seem, I remember stretching my hands out the car window and feeling that I was somehow touching the clouds. It was a magical and enchanted setting, and I, as a little girl, felt as if I had won the lottery of life.

Vila Real, uma cidade situada no coração do Trás-os-Montes, sempre teve um lugar especial no meu coração, especialmente depois da minha primeira visita, quando tinha apenas sete anos. Na altura, a viagem foi um convite do meu pai, que ia a trabalho para a cidade, e perguntou-me se queria acompanhá-lo. A promessa de "tocar nas nuvens" tornou-se uma memória inesquecível. A viagem foi marcada por um nevoeiro denso que cobria as montanhas, e, por mais surreal que pareça, lembro-me de ter esticado as mãos pela janela do carro e sentir que, de alguma forma, estava a tocar as nuvens. Era um cenário mágico e encantado, e eu, pequenina, sentia-me como se tivesse ganho a lotaria da vida.
The city of Vila Real, which I now revisit with our daughter and her grandmothers, has a particular charm, with a mix of history, nature and tradition. We decided to spend a day exploring its charms, and the first place to visit was Parque Florestal. This park, with its large green spaces, is a perfect place for a family outing. The goal was simple: stretch your legs, breathe in the fresh air and enjoy a different day.

A cidade de Vila Real, que agora revisito com a nossa filha e as suas avós, tem um encanto particular, com uma mistura de história, natureza e tradição. Decidimos passar um dia a explorar os seus encantos, e o primeiro local a visitar foi o Parque Florestal. Este parque, com os seus grandes espaços verdes é um lugar perfeito para um passeio em família. O objetivo era simples: esticar as pernas, respirar o ar fresco e aproveitar um dia diferente.
When we arrived at the park, the first impression was not the best, as it seemed a little abandoned. Some of the trails were covered in tall grass, and the general atmosphere seemed a bit disorganized, which made us question whether this was, in fact, the ideal place for our visit. However, as we began to descend the scenery began to change. The landscape revealed itself: leafy trees, the soft sound of the wind moving the leaves, and the distant sound of running water.

Quando chegamos ao parque, a primeira impressão não foi das melhores, pois parecia um pouco abandonado. Alguns trilhos estavam tapados com ervas altas, e o ambiente geral parecia algo desorganizado, o que nos fez questionar se aquele seria, de facto, o lugar ideal para a nossa visita. No entanto, à medida que começamos a descer o cenário começou a mudar. A paisagem revelou-se: árvores frondosas, o som suave do vento a mover as folhas e o som distante de água a correr.
We approached the river, and that's when we were amazed by the beauty of this place. The Vila Real Forest Park, with around 40 hectares, is crossed by the Corgo River, which gives it a unique charm. This forested area, which was created with the aim of preserving the region's biodiversity, perfectly combines the dense vegetation of the banks, creating an environment of tranquility and serenity.

Aproximámo-nos do rio, e foi aí que nos maravilhámos com a beleza deste lugar. O Parque Florestal de Vila Real, com cerca de 40 hectares, é atravessado pelo Rio Corgo, que lhe confere um charme único. Esta zona florestal, que foi criada com o objetivo de preservar a biodiversidade da região, combina perfeitamente a vegetação densa das margens, criando um ambiente de tranquilidade e serenidade.
The history of this park dates back to the beginning of the 20th century, more precisely to 1910, when the project to create a natural leisure space began to be conceived. Over the decades, the park was improved and maintained, but it was in the 1970s that a major revitalization of the space took place, making it a true meeting point for city residents and tourists. The park is a combination of wooded areas and grassy fields, with several leisure areas, such as wooden benches and picnic areas, which makes it ideal for a family day out, just like ours.

A história deste parque remonta ao início do século XX, mais precisamente a 1910, quando o projeto de criação de um espaço natural de lazer começou a ser idealizado. Ao longo das décadas, o parque foi sendo melhorado e mantido, mas foi na década de 1970 que se concretizou uma grande revitalização do espaço, tornando-o um verdadeiro ponto de encontro para os habitantes da cidade e os turistas. O parque é uma combinação de zonas arborizadas e campos relvados, com várias áreas de lazer, como bancos de madeira e espaços para piqueniques, o que o torna ideal para um dia em família, tal como o nosso.
Despite its somewhat neglected state in some areas, the park has great ecological value, as it is home to several species of flora and fauna. The vegetation, made up of a mixture of pine trees, cork oaks and oaks, is extremely rich, allowing several species of birds, mammals and insects to find their ideal habitat there.

Apesar do seu estado algo descuidado em algumas zonas, o parque tem um grande valor ecológico, pois alberga várias espécies de flora e fauna. A vegetação, composta por uma mistura de pinheiros, sobreiros e carvalhos, é de uma enorme riqueza, o que permite que várias espécies de aves, mamíferos e insectos encontrem ali o seu habitat ideal.
The park, far from the hustle and bustle of the city, offered an ideal space for moments of introspection, to breathe in the fresh air and, of course, to reminisce about times gone by. It was as if time had stopped there. The grandmothers, with their calmer pace, were also enchanted by the serene beauty, and their joy in watching the youngest playing made us happy.
After seeing the happiness of the grandmothers with their granddaughter, my heart was filled with the same happiness as the first time I visited Vila Real.

O parque, longe da confusão da cidade, oferecia um espaço ideal para momentos de introspeção, para respirar o ar puro e, claro, para relembrar os tempos antigos. Era como se o tempo ali tivesse parado. As avós, com o seu ritmo mais calmo, também se encantaram com a beleza serena , e a alegria delas ao observar a mais pequena a brincar deixou-nos felizes.
Depois de ver a felicidade das avós com a neta, o meu coração estava repleto da mesma felicidade da primeira vez em que visitei Vila Real.
