This is my first time doing anthotype. I've been wanting to find something new to do, something handmade, natural and off line and by chance I came across this technique a few days ago.
According to Wikipedia:
"An anthotype is an image created using photosensitive plant material. This process was invented by John Herschel in 1842. An emulsion is made from crushed flower petals or any other photosensitive plant, fruit or vegetable. A sheet of paper is covered with the emulsion. Once the paper is dry, some object, for example leaves or a transparent photo (a negative to positivize it) is placed on the paper and exposed to the sun until the part not covered by the material is bleached by the sun's rays. In the covered areas the color is preserved (more or less depending on how the material prevents light from passing through it) and the paper remains sensitive against such rays."
The first thing I found was turmeric so I started to paint some papers with turmeric and alcohol and while they were drying I went to the garden to look for some leaves of different plants and trees. I have used fig leaf, Aguaribay (Schinus molle) leaves, a small plant whose name I don't know, a willow alamo leaf and Ruellia leaves and flower.
The sun is so strong here that after a few hours the exposed part of the paper was very white. I have read that in many places they leave them for several days.
I decided to use some ink stained papers and the result was not so good in this case.
Details
I'll be doing, scanning and sharing more soon.
Cheers!
