(ESP-ENG) Golden Globes 2025 - Some of the nominees.

Para algunos los premios al cine y a la televisión han perdido mucha relevancia en los últimos años, ya sea porque no se consideran importantes a la hora de reconocer el trabajo de una serie o película o por las numerosas denuncias de racismo y preferencias que hay detrás de esta particular industria. Esto se puede notar también en las audiencias, cada vez son menos las personas que se sientan a ver estas galas que por lo general duran 3-4 horas; son muchas las razones como ven. Ahora, personalmente me gusta analizar un poco las nominaciones, o algunas de ellas porque no he visto todo, para ver donde estamos parados y qué esperar de dichos premios.

For some, the film and television awards have lost a lot of relevance in recent years, either because they are not considered important in recognizing the work of a series or film or because of the many allegations of racism and preferences behind this particular industry. This can also be noticed in the audiences, less and less people sit down to watch these galas that usually last 3-4 hours; there are many reasons as you can see. Now, personally I like to analyze a little bit the nominations, or some of them because I have not seen everything, to see where we stand and what to expect from these awards.

La película que tiene más nominaciones (10) es una que no he visto aún y que planeo hacerlo en estos días, hablo de Emilia Pérez. Más nominaciones no implica que sea favorita, The Substance de Demi Moore solo tiene 5 y es uno de los film más "virales" y que más ha dado de que hablar en los últimos meses y el que considero particularmente muy bueno. Cónclave tiene 6 y películas como Dune o Gladiator tienen 2. Como dije, no he visto Emilia Pérez pero la gente habla muy bien de ella, son muy pocas críticas malas las que se pueden leer aunque para otros sea un film más del montón. Será interesante porque en la categoría de comedia o musical están La sustancia, Emilia y cuidado con Wicked.

The film that has more nominations (10) is one that I have not seen yet and I plan to do it in these days, I'm talking about Emilia Perez. More nominations does not imply that it is a favorite, Demi Moore's The Substance has only 5 and it is one of the most “viral” films and one that has given more to talk about in recent months and which I consider particularly very good. Conclave has 6 and films like Dune or Gladiator have 2. As I said, I haven't seen Emilia Perez but people speak very well of it, there are very few bad reviews that can be read although for others it is just another film in the pile. It will be interesting because in the comedy or musical category are The Substance, Emilia and watch out for Wicked.

En la categoría de drama yo diría que entre “The Brutalist” de Adrien Brody y Felicity Jones, "A Complete Unknown" de Timothée Chalamet y Cónclave de Fiennes está la lucha. Ligeramente me inclino por la primera, ese film es muy top la verdad. Pareciera que no pero este año siento que salieron buenos films, el tema es que muchos de ellos no son tan mediáticamente poderosos como en otros años por lo que no generaron mucho ruido. A nivel de actores y actrices creería que le tendencia es la misma, puede que por ahí se cuele Angelina Jolie o la misma Pamela Anderson quienes interpretaron grandes papeles en sus respectivas películas. En la misma medida pues Adrien Brody se perfila como ganador en su categoría, no hablo del resto porque sería entrar en un cuarto oscuro.

In the drama category I would say that between Adrien Brody and Felicity Jones' “The Brutalist”, Timothée Chalamet's “A Complete Unknown” and Fiennes' “Conclave” is the fight. Slightly I'm leaning towards the first one, that film is very top notch indeed. It may not seem like it but this year I feel that good films came out, the thing is that many of them are not as mediatically powerful as in other years so they did not generate much noise. In terms of actors and actresses I think the trend is the same, maybe Angelina Jolie or Pamela Anderson who played great roles in their respective films. In the same way, Adrien Brody is emerging as a winner in his category, I do not speak of the rest because it would be entering a dark room.

La televisión si ha dado de que hablar, vimos un preámbulo en los Emmy, veremos como cierran aquellos ganadores en estos premios. La mejor serie dramática va a volver a ganar Shogun, lo dije en su momento y lo recalco, es lo mejor que se hizo este año en TV. Y es una "lástima" porque en esa categoría están Slow Horses y The Diplomat, dos grandes series que merecerían más reconocimiento. Y en cuanto a la comedia bueno, creo que está de más debatir pero la hegemonía de The Bear es absoluta, creo que no tiene rival en su categoría. Ahora, la mejor miniserie? - si no se la lleva The Pinguin estamos muy mal, junto a Shogun es lo más top del año.

Television has given us something to talk about, we saw a preamble in the Emmy's, we will see how the winners close these awards. The best drama series is going to win again Shogun, I said it at the time and I emphasize it, it is the best thing that was made this year on TV. And it's a “shame” because in that category are Slow Horses and The Diplomat, two great series that would deserve more recognition. And as for comedy, well, I think it's too much to debate but the hegemony of The Bear is absolute, I think it has no rival in its category. Now, the best miniseries? - if it doesn't win The Pinguin we are in a bad way, together with Shogun it's the best of the year.

Esto aplica igual tanto para Colin Farrell como para Cristin Milioti, ambos sumamente superiores al resto. Lo mismo pasará con Anna Sawai y con Hiroyuki Sanada, salvo haya una sorpresa. Y es que lo mismo puede que pase con Ayo Edebiri y Jeremy Allen White, no se si estoy pecando de favoritismo o de lo obvio pero siento que la superioridad de estas series con respecto a las demás es muy notoria. La realidad es que en estos premios siempre ocurre algo inesperado, alguna estatuilla puede que termine en las manos de alguien totalmente inesperado y esa es una de las razones del porque estas ceremonias están perdiendo seriedad. Si bien es verdad que el arrase de un par de series es muy poco probable que pase es innegable que estas tres son las destacadas del año y con mucho diferencia.

This applies equally to Colin Farrell and Cristin Milioti, both vastly superior to the rest. The same will happen with Anna Sawai and Hiroyuki Sanada, unless there is a surprise. And the same may happen with Ayo Edebiri and Jeremy Allen White, I do not know if I am sinning of favoritism or the obvious but I feel that the superiority of these series with respect to the others is very noticeable. The reality is that in these awards something unexpected always happens, some statuette may end up in the hands of someone totally unexpected and that is one of the reasons why these ceremonies are losing seriousness. While it is true that a couple of series are very unlikely to be swept away, it is undeniable that these three are the highlights of the year and by far.

Por cierto y que lo dejé pasar. La mejor película animada, no entiendo porque la gente no toma mucho cuenta esta categoría cuando estos films son de una calidad sobresaliente. Este año creo que sin ninguna duda “The Wild Robot” debería de llevarse los honores, es una película espectacular tanto en trama como en animación. Está en la pelea con “Inside Out 2” y “Moana 2” pero creo que la dirigida por Chris Sanders, el mismo de Lilo y Stitch, se va a llevar la estatuilla. En fin, estos premios son el 5 de enero. Veremos que terminan premiando y si hubo alguna "polémica". Ojalá y los merecedores reciban el reconocimiento que les toca.

By the way and that I let it pass. Best Animated Film, I don't understand why people don't take much notice of this category when these films are of outstanding quality. This year I think that without any doubt “The Wild Robot” should take the honors, it is a spectacular film both in plot and animation. It is in the fight with “Inside Out 2” and “Moana 2” but I think the film directed by Chris Sanders, the same of Lilo and Stitch, is going to take the statuette. Anyway, these awards are on January 5th. We will see what they end up awarding and if there was any “controversy”. Hopefully the deserving recipients will receive the recognition they deserve.
