We Need It

Growing up, my parents would always tell me that saying the truth at all times is very important in life and that it would take me places. The truth we know sometimes can land one in trouble, but it takes a person of courage to always stand for the truth, not minding the outcome.

I wrote on this topic a few days ago, but today I will be talking about two groups I feel this virtue should be seen in at all times.
Honesty is a virtue that society needs for its development and growth. One might ask how honesty leads to the development and growth of our society.

We all know that an honest person tells the truth at all times and avoids anything that has to do with corrupt practices.

We need more honest people in government and public corporations. People who will always speak the truth and make sure things are done the right way. Over the years we have seen government projects abandoned, but if you investigate, you will find out that funds were released for these projects, and sometimes these projects would be said to have been completed.

I was traveling, and we were driving through a riverine area, and we got to a bridge, and I was shocked at the state of the bridge. The driver told me that the bridge was constructed not long ago and not even up to three years ago, but it was already dilapidated. One could clearly see that the bridge was not properly constructed, or I should use the word uncompleted.

Lots of lives have been lost because of poor infrastructure, and most times people have been paid a huge amount of money to execute these projects. If we had honest people in government and other spheres of society, the world would be a haven.
I am really worried about the high level of dishonesty in our society today. Young people engaging in illegitimate business and their parents not questioning their children's means of wealth has become a thing of concern. We must look at ourselves in the mirror and ask ourselves where we got it wrong. Why are we celebrating those who we know have questionable characters? And despising those who are honorable.

Honesty is needed if we are to make our society a better place.
