I can not forget the day my friend recommended this book to me around months ago when I was actually having issues with my public speaking. The day I downloaded the pdf, I was actually expecting book not to really offer that much but as I begin to open and read through the book, it offer me something much more engaging than I ever expected.
From the moment I was developing the culture of reading, I have actually started consuming Carnegie's principles and books and I must say one of the most important benefits that this book contributed to my life is that it teaches me how to speak and not to speak alone but also to be able to connect with people, inspire people and make me a better person I am today.
You will agree with me that there is so much power in communication whether you actually like it or not. In fact, this world we lives in, communication is really vital and needed in almost every aspect whether you are interacting with your friends or families or probably you are trying to negotiate with a particular client and many more.
Now when it comes to communication, many of us engage in communication but only few actually engaged in effective communication and that is one of the major thing this book really opened my eyes to. Reading this book, I come to discover that it is not really about what you say but majorly about how you make people feel and how you deliver your words with utmost confidence.
I remember reading the first book of Dale Carnegie I came across which is "How to win friends and influence people". I learnt that this author didn't really complicate things and yes, it proves it once again in the book. This book is actually filled with a lot of practical tips that if applies and which I really applied and it works for me. Over the years, one of the major aspect I have always suffer from is public speaking and I must say sometimes it can really be an embarrassment trying to listen to how others talk and how I myself communicate. This is one of the major reasons that pushes me to go for the book.
As I begin to apply Carnegie advice in the book as the first one I understand was the fact that I just be interest in the set of people or person I am talking to. Reading that particular part of the book makes me to imagine having a conversation with my uncle, a really engaging on and how it can really be actually. One of the things I picked that Carnegie emphasis on is not only in the talk but also in the tone, body language and generally the interest of others.
The second principles I was able to pick from that book as the secret to an effective speaking is that I must add enthusiasm when speaking. Now enthusiasm can be applied in different aspect and which I noticed I was really lacking. Enthusiasm in gestures, in the way I used my hands, facial expressions and majorly my voices. At first I was thinking this advice by Carnegie is not really needed but as I begin to apply it, I discovered it started to work like magic. In fact, there was this particular day where I was having my project presentation and applying these gestures actually made my presentation super excellent.
If you are definitely looking for a book that comes with lot of guidance and if you are also someone like me years ago who was struggling with public speaking, trust me this is the book you should get, you will not regret reading it. I fully recommend it anytime and anyday. So much to learn in that book and since I have been applying it in my speaking, it has really improved it greatly beyond what I can ever imagine. Pick the book, and trust me you will definitely thank me later. Till now, I am supper blessed I encountered the book and I can't even wait to read another Dale Carnegie book because I am sure it will be filled with so much value again to take home.
