I live in a town uyo which is in the heart of Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria. this town really does a Latin road construction infrastructural development education, and it is one of the oil producing States in Nigeria in the south South region which made it not a flood prone area. it has four major roads known as: Oron road, Aka road, Abak road and Nwaniba road.
The previous and praising governor have really tried in keeping this roads neat, solid, specious and with functional street lights. My town has a university which is named after it and for the past years it have been producing students with good qualifications. The market places are clean and a try as much as possible to have security of life and property. It cannot be completely rolled out. These are the few major ones among others now let's go deep into what my town needs to develope on.
Not all government have been able to provide fully to the test of every citizen but the basic rights such as light and proper drainage system needs to be worked on.
Electricity
My turn electricity needs to be significantly improved on in order to meet the population growth and provide reliable power supply for both citizens and for businesses. They already existing capacity has not been enhanced on the power plants needs to be upgraded for sufficient power output.
Locally, people who live around this areas often complain about electricity not being stable as you would see tomorrow and then next tomorrow there will be my light. The distribution of transmit that and network enhancement should be increased in order to reduce power loss and improve the stability of electricity supply.
Sadly, some rural areas do not have access to electricity while some urban places and large business organizations enjoy stable access to electricity, thus, enlarging the bridge of urban and rural areas. This affects me also.
Drainage system
There are significant drainage infrastructure in my town. However, we still suffer challenges in managing floodwater and waste due to poor maintenance, rapid population growth and pollution. I propose that the government of the day should cover or seal up all drainage channels to avoid waste getting into them and people dumping refuse and sewage into them.
This is important as it would lead to prevention of floodwater and blockage in drainage systems. If the gutters are not covered and blockage occurs due to the stated reason, it will lead to:
Flooding: Water flooding the roads, destruction of properties and life hazards. Erosion which destroys plants and distribution of waste material from on place to another.
Stagnant water: This is a breeding ground for mosquitoes. The number carrier of the oldest recorded disease in mankind—Maleria. Although a Law has need mandated for sanitation. People are different, some do an other don't. Even if everyone clears the gutters, what about areas where people don't live and in no time, waste will still be deposited.
Other improvements includes the circulation of fuel and reduction in fuel prices. High cost of food items. Internet coverage and boosting of network frequency. The state government are trying no doubt. Yet, it's not easy
If these are implemented, my town would be more healthy, flood free and a better living society.
