It's a new year and with it comes some decisions either as resolutions or just determinations to do better.
Even those who don't believe in new year resolutions somehow find themselves making new decisions or plans to start acting in a particular way or start to do something.
This is because consciously or unconsciously, we see it as a new beginning and a way to kickstart new activities which before now we may not have had the opportunity or confidence or even valid reason to start and as a result, when the new year rolls in we opportunistically use it to our advantage.
I don't believe in new year resolutions anymore, I used to have them a few years ago while growing up and they formed the basis for a strong and determined start to the year but this gradually wears off towards February or March, never seeing me through April.
So I decided to do away with it.
I remember a few years ago when I resolved to read a book everyday and I began reading some novels by Mario Puzo, I read as much as I lay my hands on and even though I enjoyed reading it, sometimes it felt like a religion and it got to a point where I just pick up a book and read a page just to fulfil all righteousness. This was around the time I decided to do away with resolutions but rather to face each day as it comes.
I still find myself making decisions with the start of a year as my basis.
Perhaps it is because the start of a new year appears to be the shot at a new beginning and we try to right our past wrongs or position ourselves better.
For me, I have been thinking about my guitar too much and my days making music or attempting to. They were fun and somehow one of my best days despite my struggles then.
I have decided to incorporate it back into my schedule for the year, play and sing when the chance permits or even make time for it.
I also plan to go to the studio more frequently this year, just for the fun of it. I don't yet see how this will pan out but I am optimistic I will be able to pull this off.
I am pumped up for this year, which is unusual for me because I usually exhibit apathy to the new year except for exchanging wishes with friends and loved ones. I believe this is a good sign of the positives which lie ahead of me. I hope this is the case because I have a lot of expectations and I need reasons to be grateful.
As a matter of fact, I am expectant of a great news and I keep my phone on everyday waiting to receive it, perhaps that's the reason for my high spirits. I can't divulge the info yet but I will definitely do when it is settled 😊
