A sphere is a three dimensional shape while a square only has two dimensions, I definitely do not see a resemblance or correlation between the both of them. The shape of a square is flat while that of the sphere is not, it has the same features as a circle. If it had been a spherical circle, I would say wow the resemblance is quite a big deal.
The first time I saw the prompt, I concluded it is case of oxymoron. Where you place two opposite in meaning words side by side.
I think the only correlation is that the surface area of a sphere is measured in square units. Maybe sphere was measured using the square units.
Truth be told, I get almost confused when I want to differentiate between the sphere and a circle. I make use of the egg shape to identify the difference.
