The Man with the Gun and the Stolen Voice: Story |

The man came with a provost of his subordinates when we were busy in the office. I was asking a young man for information about a missing voice. I was forced to leave the job, other than because another friend asked for information. We don't call it a police investigation. We are not the police.

That man is the police. He wore a police T-shirt that showed off his pot belly, reinforcing the impression that he looked more cute than scary. The gun was strapped to his waist behind a black leather holster.

Even though he came politely, I considered it a show of force and wanted to increase his authority. However, because I was a journalist during the era of armed conflict and had missed the horrific experiences of weapons and the violence that accompanied them, I was not at all afraid. In fact, the man should be the one who is afraid.

He has stolen and has come to sue us for not supporting his actions. He had stolen other people's votes for his wife who was taking part in the election for council members at the city level. We found that in dozens of polling stations, he added one to four votes. The work is neat. If we didn't have evidence, perhaps his actions would have gotten away with it.

As journalists and having been election organizers for 15 years, we know each other. Maybe that's why I didn't feel intimidated by him. As I expected, he came to express his anger and disappointment. Angry because the city-level general election commission changed the recapitulation results based on our quick administrative decision as the supervisory body at the city level. Disappointed because we have issued a decision that is detrimental to his wife.

How can we remain silent and allow proven theft. Morally we cannot accept it, but of course we cannot preach about morals in front of armed people who are hungry for power. So, I speak logically and insert a little about integrity and ethics, as well as moral values.

Logically, I reminded him again that the case had surfaced before the vote recapitulation meeting was held at the city level. The victim, a council candidate who shares the same party as his wife, has also reported this to us. That's not enough, his party and his lawyer have also reported it.
The vote theft case was not supported by the party supporting his wife. It was also what caused the malicious operation to fail.

He also mentioned all the members of the city-level general election commission who had been assisted by his wife when participating in the selection to become commissioners. I used this opportunity to strengthen the argument that I was not helped by members of his party and other parties. I am indeed supported by a ruling party, but they don't make any demands even though in our city they don't get any seats. I can work independently and neutrally as mandated by law and the code of ethics.

After that, he again left traces as a police officer who had broken his oath because he was not neutral as a police officer. History will record that, digital traces will make his sins eternal.[]
