Nineties Friday Week #3, Some Metallica And Shakira

in voilk •  2 months ago

I can't believe it already Friday. Where did the week go? That must mean it's Nineties Friday once again. I always like to create custom banners for these kind of events, and today is no different. Using AI to generate them can at times be easy, and other time infuriating when it doesn't even remotely produce what's instructed. Today was one of the latter. But I finally came out with something I like, so that's a win in my book!

This is a new event that takes place every Friday and you can share anything nineties related. Music, food, stores, even high school memories and pictures if you have some of those and it fell within the bounds of the 90's. It is being sponsored by @geneeverett and this will be an ongoing weekly event.

Like I mentioned last week I really didn't spend much of the 1990's here in the US, I lived mainly in South America and the Caribbean. Back in those days we didn't have the magical voodoo device called a smart phone camera so if you wanted pictures you needed an actual camera with film. Most of the time I didn't take many pictures and those that I did would be on some negatives stored away God only knows where...

Thus my Friday will be filled with some 1990's tunes but to make it more interesting only the first two will be in English, then we switch to Spanish for the last two. This should be a lot of fun!

    The Offspring

I think everyone who has read and listened to my #ThreeTuneTuesday 's knows I'm a big fan off The Offspring. The originated in Orange County, California in 1985, but it took them ten long years before they has there first big album "Smash". One of the biggest songs on the album was "Come Out And Play":

    Metallica

The album "Metallica" known as the black album, was released in 1991 although recorded in 1990 and remixed three times and cost over a million dollars US to produce. It also ended two band member's marriages in the process. The album was a blockbuster success with multiple hits that most people recognize until this day such as "Enter Sandman", but this is another great one "Wherever I May Roam":

    Shakira

Yes she is much younger and much less blonde in this picture!

Before Shakira became a world famous blonde rock/ pop star she became a sensation in the Hispanic world in the late 1990's. She is from Barranquilla, Colombia and started young in music with her first album published when she was just 13. Her first couple albums didn't do all that well so she finished school and returned with her third album that was a huge hit making her a celebrity throughout Latin America. This song comes from the album "Pies Descalzos" published in 1995, this is "Estoy Aqui":

    Elvis Crespo

Moving on to something much more Caribbean with some merengue music. Elvis Crespo was named for none other than Elvis Presley and was born in New York City, but his family moved to Guaynabo, Puerto Rico when he was still very young. He started his career in a merengue band Grupo Mania but went solo in 1997. The move paid off very well with his breakout hit "Suavemente":

This will just about do it for my #NintiesFriday edition this week. I think I may continue to share a couple of my favorite Latin songs each Friday since most of my music scene in the 1990's was in the Spanish speaking world. Thanks for taking the time to read/ listen to my post. If you have any questions, suggestions or comments please feel free to leave them below. Happy weekend everyone!
