Rain, 3DP Ice Screw Sleeves, N40, Engine Reassembled, IT STARTED!, It's Still Broken, Krumble - Wednesday

Welcome to spring I guess. I woke to the rain yesterday morning and it didn't let up much all day long. I wasn't too happy about the wet given the work on the truck I needed to do.

I had been trying to find the right model and finally found it for a cover for the ice screws. I printed one out for a test and it worked perfect so I printed out 3 more for the larger sized ones.

They are meant as tool handles and had the wide lip.

Which I broke off of each to make them less wide. They work PERFECT! So I swapped filament to olive green and got the next batch of 5 printing.

Then off to North 40 for oil, filter, and radiator fluid. While there I found out about the battery core return program. I have 4 old batteries sitting around and I can get $10/ea for them which will nearly pay for half the new battery for the truck. (which I realized is still the battery I got with it that is from Canada and well over 5 years old.)

So it was about 11am when I got out to the truck and commenced the reassembly process. First thing I did was get the plugs installed and then reattached the wiring harness all around.

I got the new alternator installed and the condenser pump on the other side but then had to figure out the routing for the serpentine belt.

Of course it decided to dump all afternoon. Thankfully I have the canopy up over the truck which has kept it mostly dry.

The 5 covers finished about noon and I pulled them off and broke the rings loose.

They ended up a bit big for the smaller diameter screws but it just took a couple twists with them inserted to lock the tips into the end of the sleeve. SUPER DUPER stoked to have these covered and protected and ready for next season's ice.

I dug into the FSM and got the page printed with the routing. It took a minute to get the new belt bent and pushed through over the crank pulley but after a few I got the belt seated on all the pulleys correctly.

The radiator, fan, cowl went in, I filled it with oil, then the radiator, and I was ready for the intake.

All the parts back in the engine bay the last hing was to get the battery from the gate.

I slid the battery in and connected it then hopped in the cab and put the key in the ignition. I cautiously turned the key a bit to engage the started which did. I let off the key then gave it full turn and the truck started up with a loud bang and clang as the oil had to work around the different parts. After a minute the idle smoothed out but the clang sound was still there!

    MOTHER FUCKER!!!!!!!!

But wait.... I just started my truck after having the engine torn down as far as I did and putting it back together with having to set the timing right.... HOLY SHIT I DID IT!!!!

SOOOO.... when I was reassembling I noticed that the timing chain tensioners were not tight AT ALL. They felt like a sponge, both the #2 and #3.... I put the thing back together anyway and the sound is still there. I probed around the engine with my scope and found the sound is for sure in the front of the driver side cams. I'm damn positive now that the tensioners went bad.

To Autozone's site I went and found all 3 timing tensioners that cost me $135 total and will be here tomorrow. I only have to remove the valve covers to get to the tensioners and remove the cover for #1. Not too bad and I REALLY REALLY hope this is all.

R had practice and J and @stryeyz went to a school board meeting at the same time. I hockey while they were gone and then the Kraken game came on. Things started good and into the second even.

They got home and the rain was straight dumping.

Headed out to soak in the down pour with them up 2-0.

I walked in to see them down 3-2 and it only got worse. I turned it off and went to bed.

More rain today, it's @stryeyz birthday and she has taken a long weekend, I'll get the boys to school in a bit, have to wax skis for tomorrow, buy our season passes, pull out a roast to corn, prep the truck by removing things again, hopefully get a hay bale for the sheep, pick boys up after STEM, then we will go out for dinner most likely.
