I had a lot of dreams growing up, I'm not the person to be blamed but most of them had to do with money. Mostly because of the movies, the ads, the media, everything around you is trying to persuade you that your only chance to be happy is being rich.
After I was mature enough, I thought to myself the answer is again; money! But, this time for a different reason. Not to buy all the fancy stuff, but to have as much freedom as a human can possibly have. Turns out I was wrong again.
There can never be anything more attractive than freedom; the freedom to do what you like whenever and wherever. The freedom to spend time with the people you choose. To be free in most if not all of your choices and decisions. Because when you're working a 9-5 job for instance, you don't technically own this period of time. There are many other examples as well it's not only about a 9-5.
However, just recently I started realizing that money doesn't always mean freedom, sometimes it means the exact opposite! A hedge fund manager, a super star, a famous football player all might be rich but never free, and the reasons are evident.
I was at my happiest and I felt the wealthiest when I had the time and the means to travel anytime, and I believe that it any job or occupation would take away this freedom then I don't want it. I know this sounds immature but I never want to be "forced" to do something. Everything good I've done is something that I genuinely wanted to do, so I never want to be forced to do anything that would steal some of my limited time.
It's a result of understanding how limited our lives are; how many more hours do we have to spend with our family, friends, traveling, raising the children...etc
My goal is ultimate freedom; time freedom and financial freedom, so that I could "always" choose how to spend my time. Ready for your comments!
