Hi there. This post is outside of my usual stuff. I want to showcase this interesting case. In the recent UFC Fight Night event in Macau, China, female strawweight MMA Fighter Shi Ming makes a huge comeback late in the fight. Despite her smaller size at 5'2" she delivers a vicious headkick to her taller opponent Xiaocan Feng. She ensures the knockout with some ground and pound before the referee has to come in, stop her and roll away.
The knockout was some vicious and scary that the victim had be stretchered out to a nearby hospital. Xiaocan Feng ended up being okay.
Shi Ming wins this fight and the Road to UFC tournament in the Strawweight division where she earns a UFC contract. She also earns a 50 000 USD bonus as one of the Performances of the Night. This bonus money is quite a lot when you convert USD to Chinese Yuan. The purchasing power of a US Dollar is quite big in China as the cost of living in China is lower.
There's More Context
Shi Ming from Kunming, China is not just a MMA fighter. She is also a doctor in Chinese Medicine in her day job. In addition, her parents do not know that she is a MMA fighter. The parents thought that she practices martial arts as a hobby instead of a side career. Image Web Link Source
In her interview, Shi Ming answers her questions in English and in Mandarin. She is worried about her knocked out opponent and hope that the opponent is okay. From a fighting perspective, Shi Ming admits that she shows too much mercy and needs to be more aggressive. What is chilling is she says "Good luck to my next opponent."
before switching languages.
In the upload a few days later, Helen Yee from Helen Yee Sports interviews Shi Ming.
At the 1:55 mark of the video Shi Ming says she is a normal girl. ???? I think she is being humble here and mentions that her coach does a lot of work.
Women's MMA is usually seen as boring. Maybe Shi Ming can bring some excitement in the Women's division. Let's see how she does from now on with tougher opposition.
