I know I often say the same thing about all our concerts, but wow, singing Gustav Mahler's second symphony this weekend was a dream experience. I couldn't help but hold back tears at this extraordinary finale, the last three minutes in particular being an ode to the afterlife. The orchestra was impeccable, the sound of the choir more professional than ever, you can appreciate it in this short video I share above, and the direction of Christian Vásquez was the secret of success; years go by and this man gives himself more and more to music.
Sé que suelo decir lo mismo de todos nuestros conciertos, pero wow, cantar la segunda sinfonía de Gustav Mahler este fin de semana fue una experiencia de ensueño. No pude evitar contener las lágrimas en este extraordinario final, y es que los últimos tres minutos en particular son una oda a la vida después de la muerte. La orquesta estuvo impecable, el sonido del coro más profesional que nunca, pueden apreciarlo en este corto video que les comparto arriba, y la dirección de Christian Vásquez fue el secreto del éxito; pasan los años y ese hombre se entrega más y más a la música.
Again I brought my mom to Caracas, two weekends in a row, we are breaking records, besides, that made me more pumped than ever because knowing she is in the audience makes me give a thousand percent on stage, although I look super tiny among so many musicians 😅 we men sing from the balconies, so we wear a less formal uniform and after a year and a half I debuted my new black tie 🤣 in fact I almost didn't close it, I have grown a little this time 🤭
Nuevamente me traje a mi mamá a Caracas, dos fines de semana seguidos, estamos rompiendo récords, además, eso me hizo estar más abombado que nunca porque saber que está en el público me hace dar el mil por ciento en escena, aunque me vea súper minúsculo entre tantos músicos 😅 los hombres cantamos desde los balcones, así que usamos un uniforme menos formal y después de año y medio estrené mi nuevo corbatín negro 🤣 de hecho casi no me cerraba, he crecido un poco este tiempo 🤭
This second symphony by Mahler meant a lot to me, and not only because of the presence of my mother and the strength of the lyrics we interpreted, but also because in spite of singing only the last fifteen minutes of the work for the first time I dared to do it in my tenor register, and I have always been afraid of this ending, it is very sharp even for basses, but I went out of my comfort zone and I feel very satisfied, my faith in myself increased, although I still think that Mahler went a little crazy when he wrote the chorus of the fifth movement 😅 I would say that it is for singers from another world, but now I listen to this video and I see that it is possible to do it with us earthlings.
Esta segunda sinfonía de Mahler significó mucho para mí, y no solo por la presencia de mi mamá y la fuerza de la letra que interpretamos, sino que a pesar de cantar solo los últimos quince minutos de la obra por primera vez me atreví a hacerlo en mi registro de tenor, y es que siempre le he tenido temor a este final, es muy agudo incluso para los bajos, pero salí de mi zona de confort y me siento muy satisfecho, mi fe en mí mismo aumentó, aunque sigo pensando que Mahler enloqueció un poco al escribir el coro del quinto movimiento 😅 diría que es para cantantes de otro mundo, pero ahora escucho este video y veo que sí es posible hacerlo con nosotros los terrícolas.

I noticed the growth of this orchestra called Juan José Landaeta, which is the second professional group after our pride, the Simón Bolívar, also, evidently the sound of the choir is very mature, and this time we were accompanied by the Joven Coral Ángel Sauce, the new group of professional singers, which now has almost the same number of members as us. They are 89 and we are 91, and when I make these calculations I always remember the dream of Maestro José Antonio Abreu to have a great national choir of 200 singers... It is practically another goal already accomplished ❤️ I ended the day with a well-deserved toast together with my mom, satisfied, happy and feeling my dad's company between us through music, blood and soul 🙏
Pareciera que simplemente es una segunda de Mahler más, pero no, siempre hay crecimiento. Noté el crecimiento de esta orquesta llamada Juan José Landaeta, que es la segunda agrupación profesional luego de nuestro orgullo, la Simón Bolívar, además, evidentemente el sonido del coro es muy maduro, y esta vez nos acompañó la Joven Coral Ángel Sauce, la nueva agrupación de cantantes profesionales y que ahora tiene casi la misma cantidad de integrantes que nosotros. Ellos son 89 y nosotros somos 91, y cuando saco estas cuentas siempre recuerdo el sueño del Maestro José Antonio Abreu de tener un gran coro nacional de 200 cantantes... Prácticamente ya es otra meta cumplida ❤️ Terminé el día con un merecido brindis junto a mi mamá, satisfecho, feliz y sintiendo la compañía de mi papá entre nosotros a través de la música, la sangre y el alma 🙏
