You Need Discipline To Study The Word.

I think when people ask questions like how can I get the motivation to read my Bible, you say it as if God is going to make it easy for you to do the things that you need.

But when in adulthood is anything ever easy to do that you need to do?

It wasn't easy for Jesus to come on this earth, live a life in a world of sin where he knew no sin and die for us.

The question then becomes is doing this more valuable to me than inconvenience?

And I'd say it is. You got to choose to discipline yourself, sometimes it looks like setting small goals for yourself. Like I'm going to start by reading a verse every day this week and the next week I'm going to top it up to like two or three.

Another thing I want to know is when Jesus was in the desert being tempted by Satan after he had been fasting for 40 days and 40 nights, the devil came to him saying, if you be the son of God, turn these stones into bread.

Now the devil tempted him with this because he knew he was hungry. But the first thing Jesus said is it is written, man shall not live by bread, by food alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.

And that sounds like the Bible to me. The Bible is a necessity, like our spiritual food. And if we want to keep our spirit alive, we got to feed it. And if it's not getting fed one way, it's getting fed another way.
