Pets are significant for those who love them and the well-being of these pets is essential for the well-being of their owners also, and that is the reason why I take time to talk about the possible infections that can affect pets and how humans can protect themselves at all costs. Rabbits are household pets loved by different families all over the world, and when they get infected they could directly or indirectly affect their owners.

Rabbits can acquire external parasites, and an example of such parasites are fleas. Fleas are little parasitic insects that may completely take over a rabbit, this is not uncommon especially when the rabbit goes outdoors or lives in the same house with other pets who have fleas, especially cats and dogs. But generally, all rabbits can have fleas regardless of the conditions mentioned above.

These mentioned fleas are parasites that can ingest warm-blood mammals such as rabbits, dogs, and cats. Any host that carries fleas is often miserable as a result of consistent itching, and they also reproduce highly frequently. These fleas quickly reproduce in large numbers and the eggs could hatch within 3 weeks.

You may think your rabbit is protected from fleas because they do not go out to play, but other members of the family like dogs and even humans do get out of the house from time to time. Then they hop their hosts and hitch a ride inside of them, they then leap off into their hosts on onto the lagomorphs

These fleas in question carry with them fatal viruses such as; Rabbit Hemorrhagic Disease (RHD), and Myxomatosis (Myxo), Myxomatosis is an example of a vector disease, others include wildlife exposure and wild rabbits that are carrying the dice. In the ease, however, transmission brought into the human through rabbit is. In the United States, there is currently no vaccine to help prevent its occurrence even in the United States.

Fleas could severe infections and anemia in rabbits, when rabbits begin to scratch as a result of a flea bite, it could lead to abrasions and infections. There could also be cases of open sores, hair loss, and scaly skin from excessive scratching.

Through a regular home check, you can pick out fleas from your pet, depending on the type of coat, use a comb to take out as many fleas as your flea comb can reach. Be sure to maintain your grooming tools carefully to prevent the reinfection of your dear pet once an episode is over.

When your rabbit is infected with fleas, it may or may not be an itchy experience, whichever one works is dependent on the sensitivity to flea bites. You may notice your dear rabbit licking, biting, chewing, and scratching itself. At the early stage of infection, there may be no visible sign of fleas, there may be a history of fleas on other animals in the home.

Fleas can leave their feces on the skin of a rabbit's fur. Another name for flea feces is flea dirt. This flea dirt is the size of pepper grains, is small, and has a comma shape. Since fleas can affect dogs and cats too, every household animal needs to be treated alongside the infected rabbit

In the case of heavy infestations, fleas could also bite pet owners and cause problems in those whose skin is sensitive to insect bites. Most times, it is a self-limiting process as soon as the parasites are eliminated from the home.

Care needs to be taken when treating fleas in rabbits, the wrong medication could prove to be harmful to them by making them sick or even cause death eventually, so it is advisable to visit a vet for appropriate guidelines.
